I was looking around for an older 2 stroke bike for awhile and seen a 87 Honda 250r with new plastics on it, new tires, dg exhaust, fresh rebuild and a lot of other stuff, it looks to be in good shape but is $3500 a little steep? I was wondering because i could get a lot newer bike for that and dont have a lot of experience buying older bikes. I had a quadracer, but that was back in the day. My friend just got a 87 and it works great, made me want to get a 250 as well.

In WA here in the states 3500 will get you a tricked to high hell machine.

1500 for stock is the highest i would pay, unless mint condition.

i guess you havve to look at the machine... there are 250r's here ranging from $1500 to $4000 some good deals some not ,,, it all depends on condition and the amount of aftermarket goodies it has,,,

250r's don't get anywhere near as much as they did in 03. The downward trend started in 04. You can get a laeger or walsh chassis 250r for 5-6g's, back in 03 and prior, the same bike would sell for 12g's easy. My 250r, I'd be lucky if I got 3g's for it. I have almost 3 grand just in the front end and shocks. The more stock it is and more importantly.....clean stock, little worn, prime condition oem bumper, grab bar, a-arms, plastic and such will dramatically raise the value. When the economy going down, there has been 250r's with very little hours riding on them and even those still sold for alot. Some years ago a 86 and 89 in showroom condition sold for 15g's, maybe even more. There was a batch of 250r's and 350x, 87 and 88 250r's that sold for crazy money. These machines looked like they went out from the dealer to a climate controlled garage and left there. Before it was the more aftermarket it was raised the value, now its the opposite, the more stock and perfect condition stock that does.

out on the west coast in Oregon 450's are becomming the trend., but there is plenty of 2 stroke nuts still around. the more your 2 stroke is tricked out the more its worth to the right crowd. my 86 has a 300 kit, platnium pro circut pipe and silencer, custom painted frame, lots of chrome and billet, vforce reeds,37mm kehien carb, +4 swingarm. this bike is worth about 2500-2800 on the oregon dunes.
