I was wondering if anyone has any things to look out for on a 2003 Buell Blast.

I have been looking for one, and now I have someone who wants to trade 1 for my 99 Honda 300ex.. I do not ride it much anymore.. so I thought it could be a fun project.

I was told it doesnt need much to be on the road.. Just the plastic and oil pressure switch. I plan on taking it apart and building a Buell Bobber or a cafe racer instead. Please give me any info you can.

Thanks

86trizinger, You are in the right city. The place to make them go fast is right down the road from me. The only thing is, no matter how much money you put in it, it's still a single cylinder. You can get carbs, exhuast, big bore kits, clutches and all kinds of bits and pieces. I would just get it road worthy and not mod it too much. If you want faster, get another bike. I know, I have had harleys and other bikes. Best of luck with the project. I guess I'll be hearing more from you. LOL

I hate to see you wasting beer like that! Not trying to be mean. I ride a harley and I have a h2750 kawi, and there are bikes way faster. You are talking 1900s technology on the harley with the pushrods and stuff. You can make a harley fast for a harley, but the buell 500 would never compete with a fzr400 or something like that. The buells are better handling than a sportster, but it's still half a sportster engine at the end of the day. Some people just have to keep things like this in mind. I'm not trying to be mean, it's just the nature of the bike.

I am not offended... :naughty: But I ride a Honda 929, and it eats Buels and Harleys...

I am not looking for speed to be honest.. I drive 80 miles roundtrip everyday of the week to class and work.. So I figure why not build a fun bike over winter I can tag and drive one the street. It will be minimum cash out of pocket.. All I need is some plastic and some new handle bars. Maybe over winter I will go with a new custom frame but not sure if I want to go that route or not yet.

I'm not a big fan of the blast myself but, I know that it gets awesome gas mileage 50+mpg

I just read somewhere, that these blasts are being sought out, because they are easily, and highly modifiable. have fun with it, post some pics of what you end up doing with it.

Just did some cheaps mods on the buell.

rejetted, opened up exhaust, iridium plug.. Still have to make an intake for it.

Bike is night and day difference now.. Sounds like a real bike. A lot smoother power as well. Supposedly added 3 hp.. It seems like a lot more though because the bike was running like crap when I got it.

Thinking about going with a Bobber frame for a nice lightweight bike that is easy to handle. Still researching the engine swap though but it would be a good project over winter for me.

i would not trade for a buell. i would pic up a jap 600, those alone hardly have any power.

i ride a 01 cbr929 with a ton of mods...its an amimal

i got a 2003 sv1000s. nothing like the rouring sound of a vtwin. they hit hard as hell with only about 115hp. ill never go back to 4cylinders.

I already have it.. it has enough power for what I want it for.. plus it handles pretty good and good gas mileage on it as well

Sounds like the bike is perfect for what you need it for. But they don't call it a B-Last for nothing. ARRR ARRR ARRR ARRRRR

Are you saying the 600's have hardly any power??? Hmm, mine has 123HP stock and dude below you is talking about a literbike only having 115HP. I wouldn't call the 600's sackless ;)
