I dont have the answer to your question but,,,I would like to see the tests that are done to see how much weight a quad can pull. The results are different when a Big fat guy is on the recon. You have to factor in how much weight the ATV is carrying to determine how much it can pull. just my 2 cents

I seen a 98 Recon pull a chevy 1500 2wd out of the mud once, i was quite impressed.

The Manufacturer's suggested tow ratings are BS anyways.....I tore out the page in my Foreman and used it to wipe my ass when I was a long ways from home once.

My rule...look at it...if you think you can pull it, then try. (Who knew my SX would pull 3.5 tons uphill on gravel  )

I once pulled an old ford tempo with my honda 200e. It was on pavement, and I had it in low range. Once it got up to speed it was fine. We even had to go up a small hill. I was quite suprised! Years later I tried to pull a large tree limb with my 225dx. The result was quite the opposite. 225s are not meant to tow things. I kind of felt bad for the clutch after that one.

I agree to crazy's rule. But another factor is traction, but it all depends on what you are pulling. I pulled a old 196? International Scout out of a friends barn, and I pulled his 1938 Diamond T firetruck down the road (ran out of gas  ) all with my 200E!! Just put her in low range and go!!!

I had a 98 recon, & it could pull as much as my dad's 84 big red in low range (which was quite alot few thousand rolling weight easy), no problem. I also had won a tug o war agains a 2wd timberwolf (those yammies just arnt made for towing).

LMAO....MKRAMM. The Yamaha's are not made for pulling as you said.

My uncle challenged me to a tug-of-war with his 1991 Big Bear 350 4x4. I had my Foreman in 4wd because I thought I needed it. Nope. I never spun a tire while dragging him backwards 15 feet. BTW, I had aftermarket tires on and he had the stockers (this was on asphalt and he had more rubber on the ground too). So, I figured I'd try once more with my Foreman in 2wd this time. I spun for the first 6" then just dragged him the rest of the way again. Honda's can really pull some sh!t....

I agree with Crazy's rule! :D I pull heaps of **** with my 200es, if it rolls i'l pull it (well attemp to anyway)
Yeah i agree with yammys not being able to tow for crap! My dads friends son has a yamaha bigbear 2x4, the rear end is all stripped and stuffed already and its only a 199! model, my reds an 84' and shes still pulling strong................
