Probably Texas or maybe Arizona would be my suggestions. Don't come to Florida!

Texas fits the bill pretty well and a low cost of living to boot. Well compared to up north anyway.

Scott I guess I'm just soured by the politics. We have an off-road fund here that *had* $60m bucks in it from titling fees and new off-road vehicle sales taxes. And they haven't done trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro for opening up new area (state owned). And one of the tree hugger organizations just robbed about 20million out of that fund to build some more panther and wild life crossings under roads and interstates. Such BS. Climate is wonderful, most of the people are nice, Lots of places to fish/boat since we are water on 3 sides, but it really seems be trending toward an east coast version of california IMO. The pan handle and this particular part where I'm at isn't too yuppy yet, but everything south is just ridiculous.

You wanna move out of CA?

Dammit!
10-21-2009, 11:46 AM
The California liberals have pretty much taken over Arizona at this point. We have far fewer places to ride, more legal crap to deal with when we do ride, yadda yadda. Try Utah.

X2 for Utah. lol wages are ok but not great.
property values are good if you stick to your guns, lots of people in denial about what their stuff is worth, but there are deals to be had.
Lots of recreation possibilities, lakes, dunes, snow, etc. winters are miserable but could be worse. Awesome in the spring/summer. Cant say I LOVE it here as ive been here my entire life, but I dont HATE it either. HH

Georgia isnt to bad numerous places to ride, I live next to the number one rated dragstrip in the country, work can be scarce, land is cheap and living as well.

Utah is great...IDAHO is better..... Just take cars and driving for example...no property tax, it's $30 a year to register, weather it's a beater or a bmw, no state inspections or anything like that.

Facter in the low cost of housing, idaho lottery, beer has almost as much alcohol as wyoming, and top it off with st anthony sand dunes.....easy pick.

I am in utah but I'm 20 miles from idaho.

Feel free to leave, the less here the better. The second best state to CA is probably Texas. I was born in Texas but have lived in CA since I was 3. I spent my summers growing up in Texas and do really like some things about it (and hate other things).

California is the most anti-OHV state in the country.

Dammit!
10-21-2009, 03:23 PM
California is the most anti-OHV state in the country.

I definitely would not say that. Not even close. There are tons of designated OHV parks in CA and some of them are among the best in the world. Some states have ZERO designated riding areas. Most have nothing that can compare.

In CA (and lately AZ) the problem is just becoming too much red tape. Too many freaking permits, registration fees, park fees, out of control Rangers and all that. I'll deal with it because the riding areas are second to none. It just sucks that it has to be this way.

California is the most anti-OHV state in the country.

Hmmm guess you've never ridden here then? Ever heard of Zaca, Pismo, Glamis, etc? Sure we have to have green stickers and register our OHV's but who cares, it's like $18 for two years.

Dammit knows whats up, I wanna go ride with you guys at Glamis soon!

Hold on...what the hell is a riding area?

Utah passed an atv street legal law, were any city under 7000 people were automatic, the rest have the choice to allow street legal atv's on the roads. Of course no main highways, 4 lane roads ect. Before they passed this many smaller towns like my own made it legal to ride in town with just the off road ohv sticker.

I can hop on my trike, ride to the gas station, fill up, go hit the trails and ride to idaho or wyoming in a few hours.

Basically anything that has a dirt road, any wilderness area ect is a riding area. Only issues we ever run into is the private land thing. But if it has a dirt road from a wilderness area to private land but it leads to more wilderness area they force them to let the road be used. The only problem the private land owners really have is with hunters.

So basically if you take a map of utah and mark off the major cities, the rest is your "riding area".

That is pretty damn cool! But I don't want to live in Utah (sorry), being able to ride on the street is not nearly enough incentive to move there. I am perfectly happy having to tow my trike up to the trail to ride.

worse, I live in oregon... 92db at the dunes, 96db in to woods...Retarded.. And yes, I have heard of glamis. And I also heard that they have been trying to ban ohv activity there.

Dammit!
10-21-2009, 04:48 PM
The tree huggers have been trying to shut down glamis forever. It won't happen. The state makes way too much money from it to close it down.

Some states back east have NO legal places to ride on public land. You either have access to private property or you ride illegally.

Here in Utah most think the less californians the better, so yes please stay were you are.

Glamis looks amazing, one day I will go there to ride. I am sure it will be around January when everything here is frozen over. I will even concede that Glamis could be the #1 sand dune area in the u.s.a but #2 and #3 have to be St Anthony ID and Little Sahara UT, both are less than 200 miles from my house. I will be honest, most people I know that have ridden Glamis say both LS and St An is far superior, but none of you have had the chance to ride here.

The awesome thing here is when the snow hit, most of the nice trails are groomed (most of the smaller trails have a nice packed snowmobile trail anyways). I actually enjoy trail riding more in the winter than any other time.

There is ALOT more about moving to another state than riding areas, but if you want to argue that Utahs got that locked. Your epic trail rides you trailer to = my back yard. I can ride 1 mile from my house in either direction to a trail head and hit 2-300 miles of trails. My epic rides I trailer 200 miles or less to = the biggest sand dunes in North America.

Plus there has only been 1 murder here in the last 20 years, I havent locked my doors or taken the keys out of my car in the last 12 years. Try that in Cali...LOL

Utah is high on the list, Like I said wages aren't too important so long as the land is cheap. My qualifications (nuke worker and trucking) lean more to a nomadic work life.

Michigan is pretty good. Lots of ORV stuff, they have M.I.S. and land is cheap most everywhere.

N.Y. has to be the worst state. We have great trails but they are all being developed for new custom homes or new power lines.About 5 years ago you could ride your sport quad on so many different trails without getting stuck in anything. Now your better off buying a 4x4 just to get through the deep ruts or mudholes.Trails we use to be able to ride are under new ownership, and the new owners barbwire off the trail and put piles of nails through out the trail so you get flat tires. We just can't win here in Eastern N.Y. We have no trail system, which is a bunch of BS because DMV will take your registration fees and taxes for buying a quad but none of it goes toward a trail system.Instead it goes to highway construction or the Erie Canal. So don't move to NY. Well atleast not eastern NY.

Texas. If you have enough sense to leave CA, you'll love it here.

Only problem is - dunes are hard to come by.

I spent most of my first 17 years in CA, the last 14 in TX, with stops in CO and OH.
