Last week i ran into the race organizer for ice racing on Cedar Lake in Northwest Indiana. Last winter was the first organized effort in nearly 20 years on this beautiful lake. Problem was, last year it was an AMA sanctioned event. Which of course meant no trikes. Well, he explained the AMA cost them considerable cash for endorsement, while preventing the "occasional" rider from participating due to no card. Including us 3wheeler people. So, they decided to go ahead without AMA guidelines, but will still follow the general rules. He told me that our three wheelers are welcome to come and race as long as we have 6 or more machines to form our own class. They really had a first class event last year with an awesome 1.5 mile 'road course', and the common fast oval. There's a very nice 2 story lodge overlooking the lake that has all necessary food and drinks one would ever want. If you are in the Chicagoland area, this is a great opportunity for us to go have some fun, and shake off some of the winter blues. If anyone is interested in making a showing, post it. Hopefully we can make it happen......:beer

but you can count me in as coming over there.
I better get ahold of Dizasterfun69, I am sure him and Miss Corey would be interested.
Ed, my T-3, as you know is set up for warm weather riding. Would I just richen it up all around for cold weather racing ???

yeah John, when the weather gets cold, I would put a hotter spark plug, and richen it up a bit

You might want to take the extended swingarm off too!

they do have a non-studded class it was only for quads and it was pointless. turf tamers are good to stud up.just make sure you have a tether kill switch. so come on out and have a good time with a bunch of good friends and good food.I believe it is 25 to race and 7 to get in.

sbjones73

any regs on studs? and i am new to ice racing, what studs for turf tamers would work best? (length?)

Makes me want to pick my boys up in Niles, MI, along with their R and Tri-Z, and give this a try.

I wonder what a Bama boy on a Tecate could do on ice......besides provide entertainment ....:)

Ok guys, the time is now. We need 6 3wheelers to get our own class. I would hate to see someone drive a long distance, only not to have enough people show up to form a class. With that being said, we need people to COMMIT on said weekend that works best for all. Remember, these are Sunday races only! Honistly, if "we" can make a showing for 2-3 weekends Jan-Feb, i'd consider that a success. For us, and 3wheelers in general. So, who can attend this Sundays race? Who will race a trike? We have to keep the communication tops, and go out and have some fun. If you are 100% on this sunday please speak up. We need YOU! We've all had lots of time to get our bikes prepped and ready. Remember, this will be a studded class only!

Yes for Sunday Jan 10 race.

Bad news... I put my R away for the winter! It's going to see silverlake in the spring though.

I'm still interested in the races and meeting everyone so I will probably see you guys there Sunday. This is going to kill me seeing trikes there.... anyone have an extra set of studded tires/rims for my Honda? hehehe

A few pics of this weekends events at Cedar Lake. This place really does a great job of design, layout, and prep of tracks. The "road course" consisted of a 1.9 mile track that had everything from fast sweepers, to s curves, right left transitions and flat out wide open straights. Plus theres the traditional fast oval if you like. But, the road course is the only place to play imo... Had on my brand new studded c-826's and traction was outstanding. Bike ran flawless from practice, till the last lap of the day. Temps were near 0 early in the A.M. and warmed to about 12 or so by afternoon. It was a cold one for sure. That's where the lodge is so nice. They have great food and drinks and it's always nice and warm. Plus the races can be viewed from the upper deck lounge area. Gonna get out there again on the 24th weather permitting, so get ready. Remember, to form a class, we need 6 machines. Or, you can just watch from the sidelines.....

Great pictures Ed ! We had the cold spot the day before with about negative 2 in the early morning and you folks had it about 14 degree Saturday.
But Sunday you folks had the cold spot in the area of negative temps and we was in the 14 degree range.
*for you folks reading, Tecate Z and I live about 55 - 60 miles apart.*
I spoke with T-3 Lopes on the phone and he said it was real cold but the fun factor was awesome.
Perhaps, in a couple of weeks but we shall see.

Look's like they have quite the set-up going on out there,I'd maybe like to try the road race .Is that what you's are gonna be racing.I think that's soooo awesome to see all you guy's out there on your Tecate's.Ed Joe did mention that he talked to Lope's about the 24th,he's not 100% but he's heavily leaning toward's going, maybe ATCSam also, but he'll have to get with ya on that.Question for you Tecate guy's,Exactly how hard do they pull in the corner's ,and how many stud's are ya's running per tire, and your running 826's correct??Thanx for posting the pic's Tecat-Z,keep us informed on detail's if ya could.

Hey roger, i believe the back tires have 360 each and the front has 280 290. the road coure is pretty cool compared to rippin around a oval but to each his own. 24th might not work because of the weather but were keepin our hopes high. Be great if you could make it down sometime. ill let ed explain the rest. glad to see u made it back safely!

Racing for this weekend has been cancelled due to warm weather. Expecting lots of rain Sat and Sun plus temps in the 40's. Bummer. But, they are calling for BIG changes next week. Hopefully it's not too late! Oh, and thank you " Scottp597" for the pics. If we don't meet on the ice. We'll hook up at Silve Lake....

Yes, It's something to behold.........The race organizers go all out for us. They have on average 60-75 machines total. Many people talk about racing. But sadly when it comes time to ####, they choose to sit on the pot. But "'they" are the ones missing out. We're talking about a one of a kind track here, that allows 3wheelers! Wish you and the other fast guys lived closer. I'd love to see you carve this one up! All 1.9 miles. There's a link on dieseljoe.com for more pics. Yes, they even had a professional photographer there.

I'd love to see ChrisD carve this one up. Your right I wish they were closer.....they could show us how it is really done! The road course is huge.......it could use some cc's!
