Recently purchased a 1984 Honda ATC 200s.

I can get it started no problem when choke is half way or full open. When I close the choke it instantly shuts off. Is this normal? I always here leaving choke on is hard on the engine but it runs like a top when choke is half way or fully open. Please help me out and let me know if this is normal or what I can do.

Thanks!

Welcome to the board.

The choke is off when it is fully open. That's the position it should be in when you are riding.

If it only likes to run on choke i would check the carb for blockage and fuel lines/petcock.

Also, if the air cleaner is missing or has a hole in it, this will do the same thing. The smaller the motor the more this comes into play.

im getting mad and your no scientist.this should be in trikesylvania.your probably backwards in your thinking.pull off air filter and look in the carb.choke is on when butterfly is closed and viseversa.while running, the choke should be open.
