No I didn't get my hands on a high def cam. I just got somebody on youtube to send me a raw piece of footage as it comes out of the camera. The difference is flippin' amazing.

Just for the hell of it, I took a couple snapshots to illustrate just how big of a jump the new HD cam is over the old one. Check this out.

The left side was taken with my standard def GoPro Hero Wide camera. I took a snapshot then blew it up to full screen. The right side is the HD cam completely left alone (the file it was taken from was shot at 1280x960p).

Here's the full pics.

That blows my mind. I wanted one before but now...

Of course, there is a drawback. My desktop PC can't even handle this piece shot at 960p, let alone max resolution. My laptop seems to handle 960p ok but the 1080p clip I have is too much for it. Anybody getting one of these cams with the intention of editing together some sweet vids better have a pretty stout PC. My old 2.4ghz P4 isn't up to the task.

Just got a Go Pro SD for $40, didn't really want it as I am getting an HD soon but for that price who cares. You should see some of of the 1080p footage out of my 5DMKII or XH-A1 :)

I bet. I've seen some amazing high def stuff. What this little gopro can do for 300 bones is damn impressive though. It's frustrating as hell that I need a new PC before it will make sense for me to get one. I'm past the point of being able to do any meaningful upgrades. It's time for a 100% new high end PC build the instant my finances allow for it. It's been so long since I built this one that I don't even know what the hot setups are anymore. Stopped paying attention years ago.

I really don't think you have to spend a whole trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro load, for around $1,000 I am sure you can build a good PC for editing. Be thankful, my work computer was over $9,000 without monitors! 8-core Mac Pro with 16 gigs of ram with over 3TB's of storage :) Luckily I didn't pay for it.

I've already started pricing out the parts. If I stay a step or two behind the "latest and greatest" I think I can do it for about $700.

You can build a nice computer for your needs for $700, especially since a lot of new tech just came out. I built my rig for just around $700 about 6 months ago. AMD Phenom II X2 550 (OC'd to a quad core @ 3.8 GHz), 4 GB of 1600MHz RAM, Asus 1GB 4890 dual fan slot GPU, 1TB hard drive, et cetera. Pretty sure most of you didn't understand any of that, but it's a pretty badass computer and can keep up with all the latest games and software with no problems. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to stuff like this so if you have any questions just holla at me.

Let me know if you want to get rid of that when you get the HD.

Edit: I was actually going to try and think of a way to attach one of those pocket HD cams to my bars or something. The Creative Vado is only like $99 and shoots awesome video.

I'm not sure. I just went to pricewatch and looked at the individual cpu's and what not and went a couple steps down from the most expensive ones.

I remember when we had 512mb of ram and thought "how could you ever need any more?"

That cam is amazing. Makes one wonder what will come out in a few years

You can now get a GOPRO HERO wide at Dick's Sporting goods for $99! My buddy bought 2. They are the same cam that Dammit and I have just doesn't come with the suction cup mount.

I find that funny. My comp is barely new at 4yrs old. But it does a good job of playing back video without being choppy. I dont have many applications or files on here though.

Stand def video and high def video are two different things. I took my old computer (about 4 years old) and made it my HTPC (Home Theatre PC). At first it couldn't play HD movies worth a crap. The processor and hard drive were fast enough but the video card couldn't handle it. Dropped a new card in, installed some drivers and codecs and now it'll play anything I throw at it. Even raw 1920x1200 video.
