Mmmmm.....firewood. Too bad I didn't have access to something like that. I would have enough wood for years to come.

the 288 is showin its age, but still runs strong. I personally like stihls better, my ported out 066 will be back together by this weekend and will spank the huskys arse ten fold. The new chains on the rear are pretty meaty, just gotta be careful with the throttle,.....easy way to snap axles.

I use a Stihl MS250 and it seems like the chain dulls incredibly quick. I even bought 2 extra chains (For a total of three) and an electric sharpener to keep up with the sombitch. Any suggestoins Jeffry?

Stop hitting the ground! What kind of chains are they? Are they the homeowner ones or are they a full comp pro chain? You will never ever get a chain real sharp with a grinder no matter what kind it is, I wont even run a new chain until I take a few passes with a file on it. It takes a long time to actually get good at it. If it aint a pro flat-top chain your wasting your time. Also all the newer saws are choked back bad to pass emissions. If you hog out the muffler a little bit and remove the stupid little plastic stops on the air-fuel screws so you can feed it more fual, you will notice a BIG difference. I wont even run a new saw until i get those caps off the carb because they lean them out bad to get them to pass emissions. Another thing, I run oregon chains, they seem to cut the fastest if filed correctly.

I tried the files when I first got my saw. I couldn't get an edge on the chains for the life of me. With the grinder the thing shoots "curls" like it should. The chains are original Stihl "Non-ANSE" or whatever and I take the rakes down a little bit to give 'em more bite. I obviously avoid hitting the ground as much as possible. The power of the saw isn't much of an issue, but I'll still look into the muffler and jets. Thanks.

Without actually seeing what your doing its hard to say, but im going to guess that you arent getting the file low enough into the tooth. This is what you should be shooting for,....a nice C-shaped tooth. Believe me, if you figure out the file youll toss that grinder in the trash.

Brapp, dont worry...the red oak sure as hell aint going into firewood, only the tops. Most of the butts are making veneer grade and is worth a pretty penny to the slicer mill. Also the 2nd, to 4th logs are making it into the grade markets.

Jeff, whats that screw looking thing hanging there? right by all the chains? whats that thing do??

I LOVE STIHL saws!! made very well, the chain tension actually holds, not much plastic there :D

You guys that do this work (The neighbors roomate/slave also cuts trees for a living) are some hard workers! Not too mention how dangerous it all is.

You've got my respect!! Maybe I'll get you to help me clear some land behind my track for the 70 races were gonna be having here SOON! Hopefully this summer, we'll see.....................

Are you talking about all the sliders on the end of the winch cable? Those are what you hook the chains to. I think theres like 7 or 8 of them on there now. heres a pic to give you a better idea. As far as clearin out an area, just say the word and ill come down :beer

Nice Timber jack dude! My Mom's uncle has one of them and a packer back. Nothing like the old Detroit roaring through the woods.

^^You got that right! Especially one with a half-blown muffler. Ear muffs are not recommended, but required haha
