so guys i had a 84 ytm that needed a good amount of work and parts just see if it could be a good runner .and i paid 35 dollars for it .so the other day at work i started talking to this new guy and he said hey you ride what do you ride so anyways we got talking and his grandfather gave him a quad all he knew at the moment was it was a honda and a 250 nothing else no year no r or x .so i asked him if it ran he said no i said wanna sell he said yeah why not .ask him if he knew why it didnt run he said it did when i parked it but the swing arm bearing fell out while i took it apart and i never fixed it .so i asked him how much he said 200 so i told him try to find out if it was a x or a r and year .so the next day he told me it says fourtrax on it .and told me he didnt have to mix the gas so i knew it was the 250x .so right when i go to buuy it he tells me you know what give me the money i paid for the chain and you can have it .so i picked it up for 100 bucks so then i sold the ytm for 100 to so i really got it for 50.so what do you tink about it deal or no deal and what year is it i thiink its a 87 but i dont know....

its either an 87 or 88, by the silver frame. looks in decent shape but check it out good. i found alot of toasted bushings and bearings in my 96 300ex i picked up 2 months ago.

87,91,92 had silver frames the 88s had red frames. Only the 87 had 4x110 front wheel bolt pattern and that on looks to be a 4 x 144 front hub. We did switch them out back in the day for racing so that the 250r font wheels could be interchanged. They made a million 87's and that is what it does look like. Early 87s did not have a traingle gusset on top of the front shock mounts, later 87s and newer models did. I would do a Vin check to find out for sure. The VIN # on the 87s are on a small plate on the botton frame rail behind the front bumper, real hard to see, unlike the newer ons on the upper rail, like the 300ex. Still the 250x is a great bike. i saw one on craigslist and it said 87 but i thought poeple on here wold know better si i asked .and when you say bushing and bearings do you mean like wheels and swinger or motor wise .so far i know it needs swing arm bushings/bearings and i know it needs a back sprocket .do you guys think i should up one or down one on the sprocket for more one way or a other .and it supose to run but we will see .and if you have one whats some good upgrades .

350x carb or 400ex carb. thats about it unless you wanna spend money. i spend a grand on mine in about a week.

id say 400ex carb, its newer but it wont give too much extrapower unless other things are modded.

I too have a 250x, Is the 350x carb a powermod for significant increase in juice or no? the 91-92 250x's have red frames. and I would say that 100.00 for a 250x needing a bit fo work is an awesome find. Got mine for 400.00, got royally screwed by an engine shop for over a grand on a rebuild, ended up with a running engine, bore to a 390, leaks oil like a seive, and they not only forgot some very important bolts, but failed to install the orings with the gasket, failed to locktight the rod bolts, AND stripped out 7 of the valve cover bolts. great shop to do business with. I'd use them again (for target practice anyways...)

Wow I did better than on my first try at rebuilding an atv engine top end and I barely had a clue what I was doing. I didn't even own a torque wrench at the time lol
