I was out last week during my christmas break from college. I do alot of ice fishing at a lake my grandmother has a cottage on. Last week we caught a couple pickerel like 16-24" long and I caught a nice 4 lb 20.5" largemouth.

Heres a pic of a 20" largemouth my cousin caught new years week.

Man, I've been looking to get out this year.

Once I fix my quad, I'm going to get a gas auger and build a mount/slide system to drill holes while still on the quad.

Whats a flag?

How deep do you fish?

What do you use for bait, lures, warms, etc?

Never been ice fishing I'm just curious on how you do it.

I'm in Worcester. If you don't mind a younger guy tagging along, let me know. I could use the experience, never had anyone teach me anything about ice fishing. I just fish all other seasons.

We use shiners mostly. We fish 2 feet from the bottom. So the depth varies. Last week we were probably fishing 10-15 feet of water. We use tip ups, they have a flag on them so when the fish bites the flag will pop up. Do a search on them you'll see what im talking about. Im from Clinton Mass. Only about 15 mins from Worcester. We fish all over the place. Clinton, Sterlin, boylston, to name a few places. Were lucky to have the wachusett ressy right next to us. Too bad you cant ice fish it though.

So you don't use a fishing pole at all?

How long can you fish out of one hole?

How big are the holes you drill?

Holes are usually 8", some are 10", and possibly even 6". That's the diameter of them.

And you can fish from one hole as long as you want, except every so often you will need to clear the ice that forms at the top of the hole opening.

Yup. I think the auger we were using was an 8 inch. Those gas augers are real nice. Puts a hole in the ice in no time. Yeah you have to clear the ice that forms in the hole every so often. Its no biggie.

I need to get my quad running, and get an ice auger. It will be fun to make a mount and slide that will let me drill holes while sitting on the bike.

Just spent a few hours on the ice today after class... Try to get out as much as I can here in the land of 10,000 frozen lakes!

Nice. That sounds like a great idea. If you ever get it sorted out take some pictures. I'd like to see it.

Those are some nice fish. Biggest bass Ive ever caught was around 9 pounds and about 24 inches long. That wasnt ice fishing though. That pond i caught that bass in is absolutely loaded with monster bass, crappie, and pickerel. Your garentee to catch something.

Ya my dad has a 8 pounder mounted he caught through the ice, not sure the length. I dont think you usually catch huge bass through the ice, mostly spring and fall.

Im going out tomarrow to a different place hopin to catch some nice ones. This place is loaded with huge bass, perch, and crappies.
