Crazy Idea = 1984 500SR

if moneys right, I may be getting two 200's Im thinking of keeping one of them stock, and modifying the crap out of the other one. I found an '84 XR500R for sale here in NL, and I was thinking about using the motor in a chain driven 200. Would it be possible, if I was to use the engine cradle out of the dirtbike frame, on the trike frame? The motor should bolt right up! the only obstacles I can see is, lining it up with the rear sprocket, and if the frame clears the top end. and maybe some exhaust header issues with the downtube. what do you guys think? too far fetched? waste of time/money?

the XR500 motor is a great powerful & reliable motor,there was a similar 200S/XL500 done on CL recently, also a hard tail.

only thing is, im going to be out alot of money on this one if I do attempt it. $500 for those two bikes, $1000 for that XR,not to mention it needs new rockers, and im in grade 11 with no job...yet :naughty: but I am hoping to find a way to make some money because I think this would be a pretty wild build and would show some people in my area just what I can do. but its still going to be stuck in my mind until I can carry out some action on it.

stop thinking and leave the the xr500 alone or mod that only for a trike with the 250r stuff on it. do not put the xr500 motor in the 200...**Moderator Edit: Insults are not appreciated on this forum, please think before you post** a waste of a good motor in a poor handleing trike.

just cause I would have a big motor doesnt mean I would run it harder than I could handle it

i would use the 500 frame and swing arm put the 200 front end on and make a braket for the rear axle! I have a 250 twin street bike that i am doing this way.You might have to use the neck off the 200s to make the front end work
