Its a 2 stroke, but with 4 stroke characteristics. one liter single cylinder motors pumping out 200HP, 180 ft/lbs.
There is a lot going on in that drawing, notice the valve IN the top of the piston?

a few companies figured out how to make the miller cycle work a few years ago but this seems pretty revelutionary

hmm, looks like it is prone for failure, maybe I am wrong but mixing 2 stroke rpm with valve's doesn't seem so bright. the horse power alone can be achieved with a simple 2 stroke cylinder with direct fuel injection, multiple spark plugs, and a turbo set up for the motor. I mean if you get a cr500 cylinder to produce 100 hp(which can be done), and you ad direct fuel injection and a turbo, your already pushing 150hp +. This seems to me that someone was trying to design a motor with both 4 stroke/2 stroke characteristics to have both top end and bottom end, which is a brilliant idea but look at this: http://www.aaenperformance.com/V4_racing_engine.asp . okay here is a 1 liter 2 cylinder motor producing the same hp(I know this has been posted before but here you go) http://www.trickracing1.com/Twin_CR500.html

well, just look at the new 4 stroke 250's and 450's...they rev as high as 2 stroke bikes and higher

and they are also prone for failure. what I am saying it that that they never gave 2 stroke motor's a chance. http://twostrokemotocross.com/2009/12/the-state-of-%E2%80%9Cit%E2%80%9D/
