well got back from the dyno tonight, testing the new heart transplant...557 ci
575hp at around 5800rpm, close to 700ft lb torque, nice and flat curve..held over 600 torque from 2k to over 5k rpm. Time to build a cage for the driveshaft!
this is only with a mild cam, iron heads and 950 carb..as it is a daily driver

(will bring it up to you DC to show it off in the spring!) Since we are doing the exhaust, either 3 or 3.5", builder talked me into an elect. wastegate behind the headers...he demoed it on his truck..go from full exhaust to open headers with the flick of a switch. not really necessary but it sure gets your attention!

I have a 79 bronco with a built up 460 and i run duel 3''....I would think you'd be better off with 3.5''.

I did notice mine ran cooler going from 2.5'' to the 3''.

looks good and nice numbers!

Depending on how many "R's" you plan on turning that thing, might I suggest a blow shield for over the bell housing? The last thing you want to have happen is for that fly wheel or flex plate to come ripping through the floor boards if, heaven forbid that trans blows up.. Might as well seeing that you're going to install a drive shaft cage.. Nice ride by the way
Who's Dyno is that if you don't mind me asking? "NATS" ?? PRECISION RACING ENGINES?

dyno is at builder, mason automotive in situate RI. Great guy, has a sweet shop, lets you hang around and help. he has a wheel dyno also, if needed. as far as rpm's, she was built for daily driving so we didnt plan to spin it high. we tested up to 6500, but i probably wont see much of that in use, unless just messing around. also thanks for info on 3.5 exhaust..my header collector is 3.5, we have a few more runs to make to decide. I also like the way the current exhaust exits out the rar, i dont want to do 2 straight pipes, may consider bringing out in front of the wheels, i gotta search for some pics. i really dont want to 'wake it up' much more as i still want it to be driveable. sure, alum heads, big carb and cam and she would make crazy power but I have a feelin I am gonna have a hard time gonin straight as it is.

Hey Plasik, let me know if you're going up to Steve's. I gotta see that thing in person. I had a 65 F-250, a 66 F-250, two 70 F-100's, and a 72 F-100. I currently have an 85 Mustang GT that I'm putting a blower on. I'd love to see that truck man.

never been to the nationals..in fact not even sure what it is? i will look into it, thx!
289 is a nice little motor, love the dent-sides 73-79. really prefer the grill style on the 73-77 but this 79 was nice enough that i had it sent from washington state to RI (1200 bucks shipped)
came with factory toolbox, original interior, body off resto..not show but a driver, PS/PB/AC/Cruise/split window/bedside toolbox etc. I will be keeping all the factory stuff..hence me using the same block in the rebuild, make it easy. I did upgrade the frontend from a D44 to a D60, will be upgrading the driveshafts/joints, hopin the rear D60 will hold together, if not will put a D70 in it.

thx guys..
I use to be a chevy guy...all I could talk about when I was a kid. I knew every ford and dodge joke there was. There was this one ford truck that I loved tho, one of the local mechanics in town had a green ford similar to this. For whatever reason, I loved that durn truck and now own one. Probably will be buried in it. Funny thing is, I have owned 3 dodges, got 1 nissan and 1 ford truck..never a chevy. What happened?

That engine looks reall nice. You should see the one in my truck, it is in need of a restore. I love blazers and want to get one for my son when he turns 16. Do you plan on restoring the interior of the truck?

nope, no rips/tear, all original, nothin to fix. i sadly have to add gauges for the new motor/trans etc and a tach. i really dont want to clutter up the cab with new stuff but it is necessary to make sure drivetrain is healthy. cant trust the old 30 yr old gauges

Chevy or Ford, from roughly (forgive me) 1970 to 1980, they were all the balls.....

I always liked the square headlights of any brand....... And the Blazers and Broncos were just as nice; Even better when the tops were still removable.....

I like your truck allot, that extra cab as great and it still has a nice big bed to put stuff in :D

Then, things got complicated. I don't care for options on my steering wheel, just more stuff to fail. Computer controlled shifting and such just made things so much harder for the guy that "use" to be able to do it all himself........

I've watched DEEPA go through it, and I really do like his truck!! I just feel bad for some of the stuff he has to go through, just to get simple things fixed. Removing fuses, waiting 10 seconds for them to "reset", all these control modules etc etc. Wonderful truck but I think there intention is such that you "MUST" involve the dealer..... In his case, he reads allot, does his homework and can probably fix 80% or better himself; But for the average Joe, the options are lovely but they've made things too complicated....

I'd take my old 79 3/4 ton Chevy with it's 69 large journal 327 and 36" Cepek (SP??) fun terrains tires all day long.............. I LOVED that truck! I just couldn't afford to have 2. When I showed the locker axle I had for it, they stole it about a month later. I can't even sleep when I do the littlest thing wrong, how can people live with themselves??

What a fun truck that was, it ate cars for a snack, let alone "breakfast"!! :D I miss it and I'll never have it again :(

Back OT, your truck looks fantastic and apparently will perform just as well!! Nice work bud.................
