I recently picked up an 86 TRX 250R that needs some TLC. I noticed when looking for bushing kits for the A-arms that the 86 is listed separately from the 87-89's. What is different about the 86 arms? Also, I was looking at the possibilty of 400EX A-arms.
I understand they can be made to fit.....no problems there. Question is.....will they end up being the same width as the stock 250R arms, or will it be somewhat wider?

The 86 Bushings were larger in diameter and wont fit any other 250R a-arms.

400 ex A-arms will bolt on and go, at the identical width of the OEM 250R arms.
You will have to use all the bushings and spacer collars from the 400ex for it to work.
The only down fall to the 400ex arms, is the upper ball joints are not adjustable or replaceable like the factory 250R arms were.

trx 450R arms WILL NOT work.

only the 86 and 87 TRX250R had the adjustable upper ball joint. 88 and 89 did not have them

Thanks guys. That answers my questions. I think I will stick with my 86 arms.
Sounds like they are better in that they are adjustable.
Now all I have to do is EVERYTHING on this quad.
