Well I am currently attending colledge in Placentia, NL. It is a very small town and is rather quiet, composed mostly of retired people looking for a peacful place, and well like me colledge students that come for cheap rent. The colledge is basically keeping the town going.
However, back during WW2 this town was booming. About 10 minutes from here is Argentia, where there was an American military base that had thousands of soilders, This place was a huge financial aid to the town. There was lots of radar equipment there and loads of secrets that still arent public, even talk of necular weapons.
Well, now the base is aboned and has been for years. The majority was torn down and most of what is left was bought by local fabrication shops and used as warehouses, however some structures still remain. I got a few pictures of what I seen. On another day when i have more time i'll take some pictures of the underground hospital which goes down about 3 stories, just never had time today.
Hope some of you guys will enjoy the pics, i find this stuff intersting.

The first few pics are right behind the Airstrip. This is a big structure that went out into the water and the subs would dock at. Rotted away now but the size is still evident.

Do a 180 from those structures and here is the runway. Its completely neglected but a great spot racing the skidoos in winter

Yeah, a big waste. It is creepy sometimes. I'm glad to see some other guys find this intersting. If anyone would like I can try to find some pics of the base back in the day when it was fully functional.

I've found a few old pics from the base,
Here is one from 1942 where the base is only undergoing construction, and you can see many naval ships in the harbor behind.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/98/Argentia_w_ships_and_flying_boats_1942.jpg

This one is taken almost where i took the photo of the runway if I'm correct
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/PBO-1_VP-82_NAS_Argentia.jpg

Also I found this logo,The two humps in it are what i believe to be two very distinguished looking land masses that are in the harbour just off argentia

Another pic I found, The large building that I have the red arrow drawn too is what i believe from looking at an ariel view is the hangar I took photos of eariler. Every other building except the one to the left of the hangar has been leveled, There now is justoddly placed debrie and grass.

Very cool, I would love to have that landing strip in my back yard for practicing and drag racing. Never understood the whole thing with tagging, or spray bombing things, makes no sense to me, looks like ass.

Very cool thread. So what year did they finally close down the base?

Custom200
02-17-2010, 11:28 AM
The offical closing was in the early 90's but there was almost military presence there since the early 80's. It was constructed for WWII and used. And the other big use was during the cold war, Apparently it had very good radar type equipment.

Not much partying on the go here,we just party at our apparments, butWe've had the cars and skidoos out ripping around quite a bit, Not shown in the pics but there are loads of little twist curvy roads going around, Lots of fun in the snow. Actually, to me it would be the perfect place for a ken block video,

Very interesting !! I agree with jeffatc250r on the spraybomb thing...it pisses me off when I see that someone took it upon themself to deface something that didn't belong to them...childish. I would love to explore that hospital and those big guns!!

Hello,
I was searching to see if I could find the location of the hospital and stumbled on your post. I'm from Nova Scotia but travel to Argentia all the time for work. I was doing a bunch of exploring, found the 2 guns and the bunkers but I dont know where to find the old hospital? Is it over by the Gun?

Hoping you could get me in the right area!

Thanks

oh jeez, uhm hard to explain. Like its not the same place as the guns, When you turn to go into argentia by the little tool booth place, you go through the woods . There are concrete blocks on side of the road and a clearing. Keep walking through the woods there and you should stumble across it. Im not sure how to explain very good, just kinda went there. It is a very intersting spot though isnt it.

it would be really cool to but the property out.
god knows how much that would cost.

you know what i think would be a lot better and more interesting than this... exploring a abandoned nazi base and lab they did some crazy crap back in the day.
