I got a 85/86 atc250r and a 90 cr500 motor. I had new rear bushings made for the motor because the newer cr500 have a larger swingarm bolt. I made a 1 1/16 inch spacer for in btween the motor and the swingarm on the right. this put the motor all the way to the left. from my reasearch my chain/sprockets should line up. mine don't look like they are aligned. I don't have a rear sprocket yet but it looks like i am about 3/16 off. the motor still needs to move to the left more. is this normal? do i need to move the rear sprocket over some? or is 3/16 good to run, i don't it is.

Mine lined right up. dont go by the slider, get a rear sprocket on it and run a straight edge on it, it should be right on. What did you do for a cradle?
EDIT My motor is a 85, maybe your motor has a wider tail than mine. Maybe someone else that has used the same year will chime in

Your dust cap on the swimg arm doesn't look like its making contact with the case. When I set mine up, they do. Other than that, like Jeff said, don't trust the sliders. Mine "appears" to be off as well, and even wears slightly irregular than how it did with the 250R motor, but it has NEVER thrown a chain a single time.
edit: Also, are you hung from the factory OEM 250R head-stay bracket, or how do you have the motor positioned in the frame?

I don't have any motor mounts made yet, starting with this one first. The lower frame rails are cut and I notched out the rear to get the motor in. I asked on cr500riders and all the cr500 have the same width rear motor, swingarm mount. I have new swingarm bearings on the way and a sprocket so i will have a better idea what is going on then. my dust cap is making contact with the bushing that is presed into the motor. the stock bushing has a flange that spaces the dustcap a 1/8 away from the motor. maybe the older bushings don't do this? here is a pic of the stock bushing.

Can you measure the distance from the center of the drive sprocket to the side of the engine case where its touching the swingarm on both engines and see if their is a difference, if their is no difference then your probably going to line up correctly with the rear sprocket if not you will need to make an adjustment. Follow me?
I know its probably a little premature since you dont have it running yet but once you master your new found power you can add a little more, Calvin Pollet of CPI Industries is working on a new CR500 cylinder 583cc :-)
