I kinda fell into a pretty good deal thru a friend of mine for a new ride of my very own. Some time over this next week I'll be picking up a 1987 Honda TRX250X. It needs a little TLC, but its not too bad for what it is. Its got some motor work (bore, hi comp piston, valve job, ported head - don't think its stroked) and has quite a few aftermarket goodies on it...Durablue +4 axle, full FMF exhaust, DG nerfs, 250R front end (a-arms, tie rods, spindles and brakes), shock relocater kit and Works 250R shocks. Also has aftermarket plastics and a gripper seat cover. And it also has a fully race gusseted frame.

The guy that owned it before the kid that I'm buying it from raced it here locally and my local cycle shop is familiar with it so having it ready to go in short order shouldn't be too tough. I have to put the motor back in the chassis once I get it, but otherwise, its supposed to be 'turn-key' ready.

Its not much and I prolly won't put any more money into it than I need to to get it safely rideable since its just gonna be a cheap, temporary rider but at least it gets me back on the dirt and that has me very excited.

And the best part...its coming home with me for the reasonable price of just $300. Will post pics once its in my shop.

That should be a fun ride to own, I bet it will be awesome in some tight technical riding.

Ok...so no mount the engine and go...:( It was quite a basket case but I went ahead and got it. Talked him down to $150. Its gonna be quite a project, but at least it will be something to be very proud of when I get it done.

No pics cause its just nasty right now.

I had one for about 10years.Very dependable, even though it got really abused and ridden alot.Think I paid $650 for it and sold it for $1500.Besides tires, brakes, clutch and some bearings, that is all I did to it.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might just have to max this thing out. If I'm gonna spend all the time and money, its gonna be one of the sweetest ones ever built.

put a 350x motor in it, it will move then.

I thought about that oldskool, but I don't want to lose the reverse. I figure with the right build-up, I can get as more or more power than the 350 anyway.

Alrighty...new game plan. I'm parting it out and using the money to finance the purchase of an '86 TRX250R in damn near mint condition with a few upgrades.

Now thats a good plan!

I agree! The way it was, I was gonna finance all the parts to build the 250X thru my local cycle guy anyway and he has the 250R for sale, so I'm just gonna work out a finance plan for that instead. He'll get every dollar I make from the X in addition to whatever we agree on for payments. I consider it a win-win.

WHOO THE EF HOO!

He took the deal! I've got a gorgeous 1986 TRX250R on the way for $500 down and $100 a month till it's paid of. This thing is sick. All original OEM plastic and the frame/suspension is untouched. The mods I can see and that he knows of are a twist throttle and Bill's pipe/silencer. This bike still has factory paint on EVERYTHING! My all time favorite year of the TRX and now I have one. I'm wicked stoked.

sounds like a deal on the trx250r.

How much would you want for the 250x cash money complete? would be alot of nice parts for my 300ex/350x conversion.

I loked at your pics on the atvriders site and the front hubs are the small 4x110 models we talked about on the phone. Since your getting a 86trx250r thats the only years and model hubs that will fit.

I did not get around to looking for the fenders yet. i'll give you a call when i find them.
