Hey guys.
Last night I got this windows thing pop up that looked like authentic windows antivirus software.
It ran a scan and said my PC was infected and it trys to send you to a pay site to remove it.
It causes all kinds of registry errors and wont let many programs open.
Your IE shortcut in the toolbar will go blank, Microsoft word wont run, games and other program files will put up a prompt asking how you want to open files.

Now before the "quit surfing porn" comments come in:lol:..I dont.
This trojan virus will attach to emails, any downloaded programs or songs, or sometimes come from site advertisements. Crazy thing is, I dont download anything and I run email from a seperate server, that never hits my PC...

Anyway, after talking to a few people, many seem to have this issue, and researching it from trusted sites wants you to go thru registry removals and Hkey lines, which if not done right, will ruin your PC.
So after searching I found this.

Using this guys method worked like a charm for me..Figured i would share this info.

I am not real computer savy, and was wary about getting into the HKey registry to delete stuff. Then I found that youtube link.
Took me a 1/2 hour and all seams well now.
I guess this virus has been running rampant since Januaury of this year.
I was using Up to date Norton 360...I just got done kicking that pathetic program to the curb..HEHE
I am now running Kaspersky for protection.
I have it on my laptop, and it didnt get hit with the virus.
Norton can kiss my ass and refund my 90 bucks..That would be great!

Dammit!

Michelle has fallen for that one a couple times. It's been around a few months in different forms. It's a nasty one for sure.

By " falling" do you mean she tried to pay?
Or was there something I could have done to prevent it?
I never went to the re-direct to pay, I just closed the program, and bamm. All kinds of funky stuff went down.

Thanks for the heads up Mosh. On a side note, I do not run any type of anti-virus on my computer. It has been like this for the last few years. Norton is a joke and really slows down you puter. I do have a couple of programs that I run about once a month or when I feel something is'nt right. One is lavasoft free edition and the other is combo-fix. I only run combo-fix when i really think there may be a problem and it has fixed completely the few times I have ran it. I honestly don't know how so many people get viruses with all of this anti-virus software on their puters and I rarely get any with no anti-virus. Maybe it's the anti-virus campanies doing it and then letting their software delete it to put you into a false sense of security and justify the hundreds of BILLIONS that are spent each year on anti-virus programs. Yes I said BILLIONS Just something to think about. BTW like stated Lavasoft and combo-fix I do have were and are totally free.

So far, the best anti virus program i have found is using PEERBLOCK. its a firewall, and so far while using it, i havent gotten a virus yet (no virus scanner either)

NORTON sucks donkey rear-end. AVG works pretty good.

Linux is not safe from viruses. all it takes is some clown to write a program for it that causes problems.

That may be true, but its far easier to deal with on my end then with windows. I have ran linux for a number of years, and would never go back to anything windows.
