I have been wanting a new snake ever since my Ball Pythom died about 10 years ago but I didnt get one because I was always moving. So last feb. my mom and sis chipped in and got me a baby red tail boa. Sucker is growin fast must have picked up at least 5-6 inches in length, and quite a bit of girth. I dont think its quite big enough to eat rats yet so ive been feeding two large mice once a week. Im suprised at how docile it is too its just as docile as my ball python was. I also used to have an albino burmese python when I was like 15-16 years old. We ended up having to get rid of it because my lanlord thought it could get out and eat his kids.:crazy: So does anyone else have any?

Yeah gotta make sure you have the lid on secure espacially with the bigger boys. Thats pretty weird that a ball was like that usually they are the most chill snakes ever.

i have a asian water monitor, its just a baby right now, but they get up to 9 feet, hes real docile and nice, but still skiddish and trys to escape sometimes when i handle it. never bites at me or anything. i feed him goldfish mostly, he wont eat any dogfood or cat food i try to give it which alot of people feed them, but ive gotten him to eat bologna. ball pythons ALOT of times have mites and stuff when you get them, since theyre almost all wild caught, except for albinos and stuff. ball pythons actually tend to have a bad temprament, and are a bit unpredictable even if they dont seem nasty, they wind up snapping at you eventually, its kind of odd, ive owned tons of reptiles, and my asian water monitor is something ive wanted for 11 years and finally bought, im nervous about having a reptile that can get up to a 100 lbs.... my girlfriend just got a baby california king snake. its a real docile nice snake, they only get 4 to 5 feet long though but all of them always are really docile.

Hmm... I didnt know that about the balls, and as for the mites, you gotta expect that with any of them even if they are captive breed. Thats why its recommended to quarantine any new reptile before getting them anywhere near your other ones. Those water monitors are neat i always thought they were cool just never had the room for one. I cant wait till my boa gets bigger so I can have it sexed to see what it is, Im hoping for a female. They get much gigger than the males, up to 10 feet and around 60 pounds. That should get some looks when I take it for walks around outside lol. My albino Burmese was cool, Thing was about 7 foot and only around 2 years old. The dude I got it from didnt handle it enough tho it was kind of bitey untill you picked it up. Once you were holding it, it was fine. Just had to be with the quickness getting it outta the cage so you didnt get grabbed lol.

Those suckers remind me of dragons I saw one eat at a reptilr dhop one time. It grabed this rat (live rat ofcourse) and literally shook the thing until its head ripped off and it swollowed it. It was great lol.

My son has a bearded dragon.. but that's not the most unusual reptile out there.. It's easy for the kids which is the best part. We had a corn snake but it wouldn't want to eat so we gave it to a friend that has more experience with snakes.

I do! I grew up catching reptiles and amphibians and have had just about every type of snake, frog, toad or lizard.

Right now I have a bearded dragon and 4 Desert Horned Lizards (Horny Toads) and as some of you know they have a very strict diet of ants.

Those desert horned lizards are cool how hard are they to maintain?

They can be very hard to maintain due to their very specific diet of harvester ants. Horned lizards NEED the formic acid found in harvester ants and can not survive for long periods of time without eating ants. I do feed mine small crickets from time to time but they need ants and they have to have a UVA/UVB heat lamp.

Hmm interesting, thats what i like about my snakes all they need is a hide a rodent every now and again and some news paper for liner. I just keep th cage warm and keep a thing of water over the heating pad to maintain humidity and they are good to go. Where do you get the feederants do you catch them or does someone sell them?

I get them from a guy I know but antsalive.com sells them or you can catch your own.

Yesterday was feeding day, my boa grabbed the first mouse so hard its eye poped out, I was like OMG, Ive never seen that happen. The second one was grabbed just as hard and started bleeding for its "orifices". Ithink instead of the two large mice I think "Cuddles" is ready for a small rat. Btw yes I call my snake Cuddles for lack of a better name at this point. LMAO
