I have a junk '82 200e BR fork and can't find a good one. I also have a very good '83 200 fork but it won't work because I need the correct tabs in place for my 6 pak rack and front fender. I'm doing a restoration and need those to be in place when done.

What I would like to do is cut the rusty lower section off my 200e fork and then slide in (and weld) the removeable lowers from the '83 in the the old forks.

I just looked at them and there is some difference in length (about 3.5" -4" too long).

Looking at this http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/model_years/192-honda-1983-all-terrain-cycle-ATC200/assemblies/3600 I wonder if I can cut off #5 and #11 to basically shorten thses forks. Once shortened I can then weld them into my old forks.

Is this completely insane?

Rewelding the tabs from my '82 BR onto the '83 200 forks just won't work. I would gone that route already if they had.
