as im studying for my upcoming 410A certification i thought i would share some of the confusing materials used to prepare for such a test.

CFC's (chloro-flouro-carbons) are the worst for the ozone as the lack of a hydrogen atom enables this to be stable and not break down as it reachest the stratosphere.

HCFC's (hydro-chloro-flouro-carbons) are not as bad for the ozone as they contain hydrogen atoms which enable them to be less stable and breakdown in the presence of water. at most are 5% of the harming potential of CFCs

HFC's (hydro-flouro-carbons) have no chlorine so the harming potential is zero. due to concern for the environment these are being phased out as well as the previous.

azeotropic blends are now being studied to come close to an ideal refrigerant.

this is my favorite sentence wait 2 secs to reload the image

"Halide refrigerants are classed in 3 groups: Chloroflourocarbons, hydrochlorflourocarbons, and hydroflourocarbons."

rolls off the tounge doesn't it?

this may seem irrelavent to others here but science seemed so much easier in high school :p this also explains why refrigeration work is so expensive.

the EPA is a joke. Bush 41 signed the Montreal protocol and it sucked. Al Gore was all for it. all the info is true but in a lab. in the environment there are other factors that make all the research not entirely correct. they also do not tell you that the ocean puts out more chlorine into the atmosphere in one day than all man kind in all history. also true about a volcano. not that any of this is helping you because you have to learn it to pass your test.
when i took my test i knew much more about the truth than i can remember now. good luck.

these new blends are working under an incredible amount of pressure to make them work. this will shorten the compressor life and add an enormous price tag to A/C and refrigeration.

if it was not so dangerous Propane would be the best refrigerant. don't hurt the atmosphere and has a great boiling point.

The 410A cert wasnt bad to pass... My favorite line is about a "good faith attempt to recapture refridgerant..." As long as you say you gave it a try, your golden???? WTF!

agreed. but i have to know what the test wants. the new scroll compressors are really reliable though even under high pressures so that may not be an issue although it is a big investment up front for comapnys.

i must be a loser, i just got type one and type 2. but i think that is section 608 testing. i think 410A is differant.

410a is not required but reccomended to work on 410a systems. type 3 of 608 i believe is high pressure systems. section 608 contains type 1,2 and 3 licenses.

section 608 type 1 is low pressure appliances (i thing that is anything less than 8 lbs of refrigerant). type 2 is high pressure appliance, and type 3 is chillers. if you pass all 3 types you have the universal.
