Just tossing around some ideas before I decide to try this. Im looking to pick up a blaster to do a Yz 250 motor swap for a harescramble quad. just curious if anyone has done this or not.

you would be better off to do like my harescramble quad. It works good has way more ground clearance then a regular 250r. It;s a 2001 400ex with a 86trx250r motor.

The yz 250 would vibrate real bad in a quad chassis since no counter balance. the yZ would fit in a 400ex no problem though.

yeah but that seems like it would cost a little more to build.

is the YZ250 air cooled? other wise it will be a very hard task. ALOT of people like to use YZ490 motors in blasters, if you want a beast then think about finding one of those. aircooled and looks like a blaster engine so it will be a bit of a sleeper.

here is what they look like http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?113229-1982-yz490-for-sale-or-trade
find a blown motor and rebuild it and it would be insane.

My friend near here put an 03 CR250R engine in his 03 Blaster. That thing is a beast.

jason85atc250 does the 250R engine fit pretty well in the 400ex? I'm wanting to do something like that in the future.

Yes it has plenty of room. It does not handle as good as the original 86trx250r i have.

I'm not to hip on the blaster idea since you'll have that crappy suspension and handling. A 300ex/250x would be way better and they are cheap.

100% agreed! Blasters handle/brake poorly with stock motors.....Would have to be downright SCARY with a 490 motor in my opinion!

i like the ideal of a 250x myself too. the 490 in the blaster is more of a fun mess around toy. like a crotch rocket that goes 188 stock (hyabusa) or a Bugatti varon (w 16 cylinder engine with 4 turbos, 1001 horse power all from the factory) it would be a fun duner and drag racer and would be a silly fun death trap. its like those pocket rockets that go 60 MPH lol

not really a daily rider or trail machine

JMack...if you get interested in the 250x idea, I've got most of a stock 87 that I would let go REAL cheap...
