I bought a quad....

Picked her up last night and am really stoked to go ride! I haven't ridden a quad in many years but always liked them as much as trikes so it should be pretty fun. It is really clean and appears to have been very well maintained, it still has the factory paint markings on the bolts and everything. I paid $1800 which is cheap here in CA, these go for $2-3,000 all day around here.

After riding for a while I plan on upgrading the suspension to either 450R shocks or something similar since I do ride MX quite often, if you have any suggestions please chime in!

I looked up the bolt pattern and the rear appear to be the same as my 350x, I have some ITP holeshots I'd like to use on the 400EX anyone see any reason why my 350X rims wouldn't work on this?

You got an awesome deal on that. Right now a guy who lives 2 houses down is selling his 2001 400ex for 2800 and its not half as nice as that.

nice EX! i like those original red Ex's. One of my fav all time quads. They went yellow which was so-so, but when they had to go and put the gen1 450r bodies on them i thought it sucked.

i agree, the 450 bodies ruined them for me. now they changed them to have their own unique look, and theychanged the name to trx400x. it doesn't look as cool as the original though.

it has the honda 450 light with the beak of a yfz450
the plastics have so many layers to them that it will be expensive to have replaced im guessing.

also, holy crap. that 400ex is sooo nice, its like new. 1800 was a great deal

I am signing up for my first race in August! I need advice on what nerfs to get? I still wanna be able to use this on the trails and have heard nerfs are not good on the trails....

they have some nerfs now that have glide sheets on them or whatever, basicaly a sheet of metal almost like a floor board. Nerfs can hang up on stuff I had them on my atc250r when I bought it and I did a 4th gear J-turn thanx to a cyprus needle getting caught in the nerfs...not fun.

i use mine on the trails. it is not that bad. if trails were all i was doing i would take them off.

I have 3 suggestions:

1. Cut off front clip.
2. Add custom triples and inverts
3. Ride coolest trail trike EVER!

Just kidding..... enjoy it, man. I think I am in the wrong forum anyway. Seroiusly though, I am planning a 400EX trike at some point in the next few years.

I mean the 400EX and 350X are so similar I don't think I'd want to make it a trike, I'd rather do a 450R. I just got done with my first ride and it was a blast! I have to get used to how much more steering a quad has compared to a trike.....I definitely like the steering of a trike more so far (haven't ridden a quad in years) but the quad goes over stuff soooooo much easier/smoother.

I'll be racing in the ITP Quad Cross race series in the amateur class. I wish I could race my 350X! To be honest one of the main reasons I got a quad is to be able to race, I would rather race the trike but most places won't even let you ride let alone race.

I bought my banshee for the exact same reason. I have several sponsors that really want me to race the quad cross. I just have no desire to run MX. I like my tt and flattrack races.

Check out the Worcs races they are perty good. Trails type of stuff. And Ventura raceway run flattrack and a light motocross on the infield. Once they give the pro class a payout i will go and race there.

Ummm the 350x feels faster but I think the 400EX is actually faster, I rode Zaca Station MX track today and could clear doubles I couldn't on my 350X and could feel I was much faster. I think I like the trike for trails a lot more just because it's a little more edgy and "un-stable" or something. The quad just soaks up everything and is pretty "easy" to ride compared the trike. But hands down I like the quad more for MX tracks, I feel much faster and more stable when jumping. That with the combination of it being newer with better suspension is amazing compared to the trike. I took some helmet cam footage today that will be up hopefully tonight!
