Cool Pic . Down here in south Florida we are # 1 in the world for people being killed by lightning strikes . Seem like a few times a year I here were someone is hit sitting at a park bench or riding a horse .

mmm... speed cooked horse burger....damn yeah we really dont get much lightning up our way here but in the last 3 days it's been pretty crazy.

thanks to all the comments and there really is no skill in lightning shooting far more luck. get a tripod and set your camera for a long exposure. the shots i shoot for lightning are usually between 6 and 30 seconds... but be prepared for 100,000 shots where it will strike just out side of your photo...

I need to hit you up DJ. I have a pretty decent camera (in my opinion) think its a Cannon Rebel XT. Trying to figure out how to set it for longer exposure. Maybe you can crash course me over the phone?

Awesome pic though. Tryed to take the ol 35 mm out the other night for the heat lightning in the distance. Dont know what I got just yet..........

eric: yeah let me do a little research and i'll give a ya a ring .

ninja: my triprod is one of my best friends... if you dont have one go buy a cheap promaster and then, go shoot the moon, and star trails http://www.flickr.com/photos/djberg/4260649961/ tripods and night photo's are the best oh yeah and dont forget 6 second waterfall shots silky smooth!

and power wise i think the wind was where it was at! i did not take a pic but a house here in busti had a 40" based pine parked right on the second floor! the base broke off bout 4 feet up it was only a couple feet off the side of the house!

Very cool. I like to see photos of nature and it's fury!!!

Ninja: is that lightning coming back up from the ground in the bottom right of your photo, or just a blip?

yeah i love nature shots and wish i had a decent canon for that(they have better clarity), but the nikons track and auto focus better( for shooting races and what not)

waterfalls, stars and fall foliage are fun hobbies i wish i coud make money on but everybody and thier brother shoots them and has them for sale... so they will stay just a hobby...

yeah and i widh i could have shot the tornado on one of the near by lakes, but missed it...
