View Full Version : Rust on outside of gas tank? (paint bubbling off)

Can anyone give me advice on how to fix this? I pulled out the old gas tank for a 80's dualsport and low and behold pieces of paint fell off at the finger tips. There was a small amount of gas in the tank, which I think contributed to this happening, but no rust inside.

Can I paint over these spots and have no worries or is there a special prep?

before any repainting you must get all the rust off, even the little pits.if you leave any at all it will bubble off eventually.also you have to use a good automotive paint to stand up to gasoline.anything in a can will dissolve when gas contacts it

I thought you left us forever?? :D

Anyhow, I'd just feather the edges, scuff the rest and repaint. Let it dry a couple weeks before spilling any gas on it!

Gotta remove any and all rust under it though......

Make sure you do it well!!

Scratch what I deleted, it's a Kawayuki.........
