View Full Version : MY daughters TRX90 Build!
picked up a 97 trx90 after some horse trading the original motor was blown and someone stuffed a auto chingchong 100 motor in it. it needs a bit of work but its a good quad size that can be builtup later with better suspension and motors when my daughter needs it. Right off hand what is the wheel lug pattern size? I always try to put the best rims and tires on it so it safe and handles well, it has the stock 8inch rims front and rear I got some new 8 inch front tires but need some low narrow rear tires now for it wish I never sold those scorpions.....grrrrr
right now im looking for a stock or aftermarket front bumper and it has the green plastic and either would like to trade for some white or red or sell outright.
any ideas on these little things let me know.
ok new stuff added for this thread the little 70 motor is out
here is a list of current and ongoing mods
1st gen 200x rear suspension (shock, swinger,axle,brakes)
1985 trx 125 engine (auto clutch electric start and reverse)
300ex front suspension or 400ex
ill start posting pics when I get a sizable amount of work done, this needs to be done by christmass!

ok need some help this trx90 dosnt have the stock motor someone put a knockoff of a knockoff chinese motor in it, problem is the wiring is bogus this is what I got:
off the chinese motor (electric start only no backup)
stock wiring harness ony like one or two wires cut
the stock cdi hookup
the rectifier hookup
and the alarm hookup
these are the ONLY things hookedup on this harness
the lights arnt hooked up
no starter switch
no light switch
no run switch
they had it wired with a extra key switch directly to the starter to start it (dangerous and junk)
does anyone have any idea what and how this wiring works? are most chinese motors the same wiring?
it does have a lighting coil
the trx90 still has the key switch and the run switch on the bars and the wiring
the only starter switch I have is off a moto4 80
what im trying to get at I want to clean up the wiring and hook everything up as it should be hooked up but I have NO clue where the chinese wires goto since its missing all its switches and stuff
also I want to eliminate that stupid alarm box can I just unplug it?

wires that I beleive would goto the handlebar switches and key switch (also not hooked to anything)

Ok so Ive decided to start selling stuff off so I can go ahead and build this machine for my daughter, Ive been screwing around with trying to build her something to ride again for way to long and have a stack of choped up abortions that didnt cut it..... I jumped at the chance to get this trx90 becouse I knew I could mod it so she will be able to ride it for many years and I can get bigger motors the just fall into it as she needs more power. Plus I can add to the suspension to make it ride and handle better. My daughter has been riding since she was 3 her last quad was a trx70 and she rode it till she couldnt fit no more shes now 10 years old also she has JRA and the last big ride we did she rode all day on that hardtail 70 and that night she couldnt move or walk becouse all her joints were swollen, she was hurting while riding but she toughed it out becouse she was having fun. So I was determined to make/get her something that had suspension and handeld so she could ride it and not feel so bad afterward and this trx90 is right up her alley.
things that are planned:
trx250x/300ex/400ex front suspension
extended swingarm/axle
disc brakes front/rear
new plastic
bigger motor
fast flex bars
dg front bumper
250R prm desert rear grab bar (may be bogarted from the 500 for a bit lol)
nerf bars
gusseting the frame at all points needed
10 inch front wheels
8 inch rear
19 inch front tires
16-18 rear tires
eventualy trx90ex plastic in white (her request)
candy blue frame (her request)
blue flame decals (her request)
so far done:
extended swingarm +4 with axle and disc brakes
trying to find all the 300ex stuff for the front right now
ill get some pics up tomorow
if anyone has any parts that I can use let me know!
my daughter will thank you~!
here are some pics of what ive been tinkering with
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/atv%20builds/IMAG0280.jpg
and just for you trx90 riders a great mod for the rear thats a bolt in (almost) is a first gen 200x swinger and rear axle
gives the little trx a +3 rear

Do you have any updates on the build so far. I just got a set of control arms for my son's trx 90 from a friend.. I would love to see how the shock and sprocket line up. What rear shock are you going to run>?
nothing much done im going to run the 200x shock it seems to work well, im going to try to weld up the rear shock mount this weekend and some engine mounts then ill have some pics worth updating.

Did you do any work to the front suspension yet? I have my complete front suspension sitting here for my sons TRX. It's his Christmas present so I can't do it until November though. I have just been gathering parts. So far I got a complete 300ex front suspension for $30 shipped with brakes and shocks off of a 2007. They are getting ready to be powder coated within the next few weeks if I get any time.
