Hi,
well like the title says I've had my '85 KXT250A1 since 1987
She currently runs a KX250 engine of the same vintage, with a hand built pipe and 38mm flat slide carb and some subtle porting :naughty:
While I'm here some have said the egines top end is the same. the KXs available here actually run a higher compression ratio lighter fywheel (that doesn't suffer magnets falling off) different ignition curve, closer ratio gearbox and slightly different porting, oh the KX runs a dykes single piston ring while the KXT the std two ring piston
Swing arm is 50mm longer than std and runs up to 200mm wider accross the rear
Rear caliper is Suzuki 400 front and mastercylinder is GPZ600
Maier plastics
wider foot pegs
7" X 10" front rim
Strengthened / braced frame, I kept tearing it apart around the airbox, the rear hub used to do the same, more mods to that
Raced the old girl for about 7 years

Only 6 KXTs came into NewZealand so parts are thin here

The pic is from about 3 years ago on a gokart track, very cool

Been reading this forum for ... a long time, thought I should finally say hi

Current other ride is an 06 KXF450, but I love my trike

Cheers, keep up the great site and thanks to all for some great reading

Is that an orange frame? I have an 85' similar to yours, we're like twins! (except you know how to ride and have a faster trike). And NewZealand has some of the top bullriders in the world. Have met a couple that came down from Canada to ride here.

hang&rattle ... I like the look of yours, mine still looks like it's had 7 years of hard racing, now all these years later I'm going to start a rebuild.

Hey it was the 1980s and bright colours (orange) were in, my god I had scary bright gear back then, the following pics are me in practice gear for wet conditions, these are from the 1990s you can make out the matching orange goggles

Cheers

WOW! You do not know how cool that is to see KXTNZ:-). My trike found it's way to Montana from Pismo Beach CA. The previous owner now lives in Kalisispell MT. His name was John Rogers. He raced Tecates from 85' to 88' in California, then retired, When I seen he had started painting (he started a restore but got as far as tearing everything apart) hubs orange I told him I'd seen some pictures of a racer in CA in 1985 in San Jose with orange accents, it turned out to be him! So hence, I did it to kinda honor John. What a coincidence. I only have one picture he sent me and this was on one of his different Tecates, I do not see the orange in this old picture.
