The frame was getting bad, I had to replace the center tube.

Can ANYONE find aftermarket rear brake backing plates or a discounted price on OEM??

I'm sure Toyota gets a pretty penny and I've searched high and low with no luck...........

Nice work dc, I have seen quite a few postings on converting to a rear disk setup. Maybe an option?

Yes it is, but you have to buy 2 85 front calipers (and have no core to exchange) and then rig up a driveshaft type emergency brake for passing inspection.

If I can find some good used plates or new ones cheaper than MY dealer  then I'll leave it as is.

I don't have the $$ to do the conversion, ends up being 400$ give or take.

Toyota's are great trucks! I just got rid of my 95 before I moved down south. Just to small for a car seat lol, they can take a pounding. Mine had extra leaf in the rear, aftermarket torsion bars, changed gearing in rear end had a heck of a brush gaurd on it. Let me check through my photo's for it to show ya DC. The guy hasn't paid me yet so I'm gonna run the idea by the guy, to see if he will give me the brush gaurd back I will knock some money off. Hit a deer at 65 mph and a trailer and it just flexed, save my truck many times.

Gotta love the old rust buckets. My 88 looked good from a distance but get up close and it was a rusty mess. I sold it last winter and finally got a full size. Like yooperman, I needed room for a car seat. Actually there are 2 in there now lol

Me. i can find them i have tons of rear axles with good backing plates. they are the same from 86-95 22re or v6 don't matter.

I have had to fix that tube on my early 80's trucks i used drive. I just cut the tube off at the inside of the frame and a piece of 1 5/8 black pipe for plumbing fit rite inside the holes threw the frame. just clubbed it threw and welded the ends and tank mount back onto it.
