Have a 83 110 honda. starts and idles great. when i shift to first and run on flat land it runs great. but if i stop on a slight incline and try to go up it i cant. i can jam the throttle down and it revs just fine but no go. it shifts in to all the gears and reverse just fine. (on flat land). i have read a couple things it could be. 1. a bad ground wire some wear. which it could be cause the start switch is broken. 2. carb issues. i did some small adjustments but no change. 3. a vacuum issue. i did some of these test with out the air filter. i was hopeing some one of great know how could help me out. its getting to cold to be doing test all day. could it be a oil issue. semi automatic clutch.

Pull the dipstick out. Does it smell like burnt clutch?

If you smell it you will know the smell, about as foul as burnt up electrical components.

do you think it needs a new clutch or just the plates.

I would assume your gonna need both plates and disks. Normally when you burn up a clutch the plates will get warped.
