2000 Polaris xpedition 325 4x4

I have the quad stated in the title, it is shaft driven but has a internal drive chain on the right side. It broke it once, I thought maybe a link come undone or something , so I put a new one in and it broke it in about thirty min of fixing it. Was running great and then it broke. Any ideas would be helpful. thanks

was the tension correct? sprockets in good shape?

tension is ok. there is no sprockets to speak of, just two gears. the chain is internal and is what turns the rearend over for the drive shaft. but the gears are in good shape.
