It is a EMD (Electro Motive Diesel), 645 cubic inch per cylinder, it is a V-20, YEP 12,900 cubic inch. This is a diesel 2 stroke. Radiator wieghed right at 8,700 lbs. Complete liner assemblies wiegh 408 lbs each. Holds 525 gallons of oil. Cooling capacity 450 gallons.
A few wild/wierd features of this engine. It has a knife and fork rod setup left rod has a 2 peice rod cap and holds the right rod onto the crank. Pistons are mounted on a carrier that allows the piston to rotate in the cylinder as it goes up and down. Each liner has water jackets built into it has a water line to each liner at the bottom and 1 at the top also. The block starts out as 2 giant pieces of I beam, nothing is cast.
It powers a 2.7 megawatt generator. This is just a black start unit if we loose all power to the site, we use this to start our 75 megawatt gas turbine. The engine was rebuilt because it tripping off because of high crankcase psi. It took us about 3 days to get all of the dirt out of the engine and cleaned up good enough that I would allow us to start reassembly.
