Just out of curiosity and wondering how abnormal I am, what is the most you have ever spent on an item without your wifes knowledge or permission? Myself, there have been numerous motorcycles, a 04 Nissan 350Z, and two years ago I bought a house to flip. The house was more oversight than intention in not telling the wife, but she did not speak to me for 3 days. Just sold the house, so all is good again. But I did just buy an 85 atc250r that is going to have to hide at my parents for a while.

Last March i bought a house without her knowing. It was kinda a awkward situation.
Wife: Why is there no money in the bank?
Me: I bought some stuff.
Wife: What the hell did you buy, a house?
Me: Uh, yeah...... by the way, i got layed off today.
Wife: WHAT!!

Never really bought anything without her knowing about it, but have bought a few things against her wishes.
Probably the most expensive was my 250r, it was $2500. Recently i bought a new S@W hangun she wasnt to thrilled about, that was $780. I say its easier and more fun to ask forgiveness than for permission!

But i will say, i have bought her some bigger items as well. Cashed in an old 401k from an old job a few years back and bought her a 4 year old MXZ 700 that was in mint shape. And this past summer i sold my farm tractor and bought her an '03 Z400 so she could keep up to my R a little better when we go riding Tug Hill. So, its not all about me lol!

Not to well, especially when i drug her over there everyday to work on it.

She still isn't over it either. The house has been sitting on the market for about 3 months and she makes sure to remind me weekly how big of an idiot i am.

At least you got her to the house to work on it. My wife would hardly set foot in the place much less work on it.

Thats what i'm talkin' about!! Man after my own heart. I just like to keep her in suspense. She never knows what's going to follow me home. Although she decided she wanted a new GMC Acadia, wasn't really much I could say.

My wife is used to it. When I was trading on guns alot, I liked high end stuff. I wasn't nothing for me to send $5K at a weekend show. When I got into cars and needed a bigger shop she found out when I brought the high lift home from work to d othe grading. We've never realy talked about how much I spent but she knows the floor was near $10K.

I normally tell her first anyway, bought a Dodge Neon for parts once, but she figured I would so it was not a surprise, she saw it first, lol. She doesn't complain about all the Trikes and bikes, in fact the last one we got a 1980 Honda Express moped she brought home and I didnt even know it was coming, it was like heres another project for ya, but you have to unload it.

No wife....No problem....

Amen,

I don't seem to hold onto money for very long though, at least it is on stuff that I really want.

My Father on the other hand..... I know i helped him buy more than one classic car behind my mothers back. The best example was a Rat Rod project, he got a year into it before she found out (it was being built by others though so it was away from home). It was almost done.

I've bought golf cars, trikes, cars etc.
I find it best as in swap meet stuff like old oil cans is when asked How much did THAT cost? I always say $200 and when you get the big WHAT??? I say no, it was ONLY $20, she always says Oh, that's OK. Shock em silly first is the only way.
We have just come home from a weeks holiday for her to find a concrete slab in the yard for a wood fired pizza oven I'm going to build. "Didn't I tell you about this? I'm sure I did"

I let my wife know about my big purchases. She doesnt really care about the little ones. She went with me to look at my 83 xmas 70. When I got done talking to the guy I went back to my truck to get the money. She said are you buying it to resell and I said hell no. For the price Im getting it for its staying with me. She laughed and said for that price you cant go wrong.
