Man that suck. As long as everything still moves and you still have feeling you should be fine, after you get stitched up

About a year ago I stuck an Awl into the fatty part of the hand under the thumb and it went in quite a bit. I had to pull it back out, my hand instantly swelled up. I thought maybe it would start to heal on its own but after the second day I had to go to the doctor. It took about two weeks for the swelling/pain to go away.

Just got back...nothing permanent, xrays were good, plus they gave me the good stuff for the pain
Right? It cant hurt that bad, or 3ww is a religion to you...hahaha I had a little time to kill while the wife calmed down and got the little one ready to go. Hard to type with one hand too. Looks like I'll be out of commision for a few days, she's swollen pretty good.

Go to a hand clinic!!!!!

I had a similar injury, dog bit through my hand. In the bottom out the top right near yours. I figured I'd just man up and get over it, but since then, my hand to elbow has not been the same. I guess tendons run that way. Hand doesn't open/close 100% and overall function is 'slightly' less than it ought to be.

Even if it sounds unnecessary or corny, do hand exercises over the next few weeks.

I HATE when you slip and there's that second or so until you figure out how bad you stabbed yourself. Must have been horrible seeing the screwdriver sticking out of your hand.

So there I was....taking a break from rebuilding the 350x, trying to put a new carb kit in my boat engine. I had the carb off, and was trying to get the main needle cover off (it was a slot head, and put in with locktite). The damn thing kept slipping off the threads, so I was going to try one more time with all my might, while holding the carb with my left hand....and then it happened. The screwdiver popped out of the slot, knocked the carb out of my hand, and went straight through my palm. It was split second...I yanked back on the screw driver as fast as I could. I felt a little sharp pain in my palm, but my knuckles felt like I just punched a brick wall...I then realized what had happened. I turned over to look at the back of my hand, it was already swollen, and you could see a perfect red slot where the tip had hit the skin. For a moment I thought I would just wrap it and keep working...for a moment, and then the pain really kicked in, I had to sit down b/c I thought I might pass out. sat there for a second and made my way into house to tell my better ( and more coordinated, half)...and the rest is history. I have an appointment for Mon with the hand specialist..so we'll see, but the ER doc said I was pretty lucky......

i feel for you. i just got out of the hosp after surgery removing 16" of my intestines, a freeby appendix removal. Don't forget the 5attempts at an iv insertion, full catheter and now have a bladder infection. I have air all around my midsection, and 40 staples and can't get comfortable. I'm typing with one hand the other is holding a pillow to my belly cause my guts feel like they want to fall out. This sucks so bad...

I was trying to get a leather needle through some thick deer hide (making moccasins). As I pushed harder, the needle broke in two, and the now blunted end went through the bottom of my left index finger and came out the fingernail and stuck in the wood table. I yanked the needle out and grabbed my finger (like we all do) and couldn't make myself look for quite a while. I toughed it out (my little girl was with me... had to be cool), but for a long time, I thought I had a small piece of the needle left in there. Just thinking about it makes me a little sick

well as a hand surgeon, I have heard it all, it is remarkable how similar all the stories are, zip ties, gloves with rotating machines, nail guns, bagel cutting, frozen patties, can lids, awl/screwdriver vs palm and of late=snowblowers, be safe out there

Stabbed right through the thickest area of my thumb where it connects to the palm with a woodworking chisel . Still have the " tattoo " on my hand to remind me to not rush or do dumb stuff . Bad part is right before I seem to do something like this there is always the little voice of reason that tells me to take an extra step to do the job safely and I choose to ignore it . Some day I'll learn to listen to it . Hope you get well soon !

Me and the table saw had a little run in one day. It only half way took off the top of my right index finder. It's back to normal now with a scar to show. It gets cold mighty quick out doors tho. Other index finder I slashed open with a utility knife putting plastic.

Sliced my hand pretty bad will steaking some King Mackreal I had caught. Told my mom to go into the marina and get a class of water, bandaids and 2 beers. Ripped it wide open again a few hours later. Ended up going to the dr. office. Nothing they could do but give me a tetnis shot and a few butterfly bandages. Healed up pretty quick though.

No other tools but the screwdriver, and all 220lbs of my wieght on it. I also heard that little voice of reason right before it happened..."if that screwdriver slips off, it's gonna go right through...there, crap"

:beer:beerAbout 11 years ago I decided that the negative battery cable on the big truck I was driving was just a little too small for the bolt. So I held one end, shoved the other end into the drill press and all went well right up until that little voice said "dont drill bits catch on that last little bit of metal and just spin the piece?" At that second the thing came around at lightening speed and actually ripped my nail, nail bed and about 3/16 of an inch of my left thumb off. My little voice just said,"I thought so!", it still doesnt grow in right! Heal up, hopefully it wasnt your trigger hand!! We should start a post on the silliest ways we have hurt ourselves.
