That price would surprise me!! I figured maybe a couple more hundred. I suppose if you have two guys sniping with real high max bids one of them might get a surprise themselves!!!

That shock would be nice if some one wanted to build a Mugen (trailor queen) racer and not use it for a rider. Its been sitting in a box for 20+ years and probably leaked down. It's a nice peice for Google eyes but for riding?? I don't think so. For the going price I would buy a state of the art Works Quadstar or for a little more buy their Ultrax shock and have it set up for my riding weight.

I agree, great for bragging rights and a machine that will sit. I'd rather get an ELKA I can beat on........

It's certainly a great piece of history though!

Just kid'n (HE He he)

Many front Showa forks and rear shocks have a Showa decal on them. Showa is a just a brand name of sorts.
Mugen was Honda's unofficial R&D tech. They improved many OEM designs. The Mugen suspension was top of the line for the '85-'86 ATC 250R back in the day. Though it's not nearly up to par with the invert mods many guys are doing now (Jason Hall) with today's current technology.

I've been Jones'n for one of these rear Mugen shocks for a while now and this will match my front end.
Very excited, though my wife's, well......... NOT!

I just got my hands on a well used Mugen barrel for an '85 CR 250. Going to put this stuff on the Mugen garage queen. I don't have the matching CR Mugen head. After a bunch of research with Pete (Offraod Vintage), I'm looking for someone with a PRO X (PRO CROSS) ATC/TRX 250R head to help me. I need a pencil scratch or etching of the gasket (O-ring) deck surface to see if the stud bolt pattern is the same. Anyone got one off, or an extra for sale ???
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's the head I'm looking at using.

CRAP, YOU MEAN I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO USE IT??? Actually my Mugens are working great on my ice race R. A couple freinds and I bought them in the late 1990's for $100 each and we all have been using them. No garage queens here!

Sudco had a closeout sale about 7 or so years ago and had a few of those shocks they let go cheap same with the front forks. I was able to snag one before somebody came in and bought everything they had.

Yup, that's where Chris and I got them from. I kick myself on a daily basis for not buying a bunch of them. Still got the box in the shed from the forks and the rear shock I think. If anyone wants to give me close to $1500 I'll take the rear shock off mine today. I'd take a lot less than that even. Still works very well though. Saw some action at Silver Lake dunes a few years ago and they worked pretty well. The rear was downright cushy.

If I get a PayPal for $1200 I'll pull it off and ship it out.
