I think about it since a long time,so I decide to try,and finally,it's not so bad,a 140cc V-twin motor, based on a ct70 crankcase, cut another set of case and tig welded on the top of the other, modify a stock crank to fit 2 connecting rod on the same pin,1 long timming chain for both cam.A ATC90 ignition cover and point used on the magneto cover for the upper cylinder. Will use a dual carb setup. I have now a problem, where did i could use this motor?!?!?
I'm thinking about built a scrambler sl70,or a dual exhaust ct70,but both need a lot of frame modification to fit this....
Now I want a twin cylinder,but side by side...hehe 114455114456114457114458

that is insane but i think you may need to make a costom frame maby a modifide tri moto frame most frames that fit laydowns wont clear the top head and normal frames the other head will hit your front tire

I will probably fit this motor in a 2 wheel bike,sl70 need some work,ct70 need a lot of work,it will be more a show bike

id use a old 90-110 aftermaket tube frame the you could just bend the tubes around the 2nd top end that would be easy

honda xr or xl 75-100 frames with the down tube cut out might work theres room in front of the motor

Very impressive. A CT 70 was my second bike.

Any pics of the crank? I'm kinda curious how you're gonna successfully make 2 pistons push/pull the same crank in such little space. You say both rods are on one pin?

Sorry no pics of the crank.....if I have to split the cases for any reasons I will take picture for sure.Yes both rod are on the same pin

Once again, you skills of deduction are spot on Redneck. Nothing gets by you.

atc500x, you never cease to amaze me. You have outdone yourself this time my crazy Canadian friend!

I'm still curious how you've got this worked out? Do both cylinders fire at the same time? I would think as the front is reaching bdc the top would need to be just at about tdc center.

So lemme think about this out in text. We have our front piston just below tdc on it's way down on the combustion stroke,at that point the upper cylinder would need to be nearly bdc on it's way up, it reaches tdc for the compression stroke, the front cylinder would then be at bdc headed up for an exhaust stroke, cumbustion on top cylinder, top piston down, front piston up for exhaust....oky thinking abou it i guess i see it could work in thoery but man the timming would need to be perfectly figured out. How'd you manage driving two timming chains? Can you show pics or that?

I have one timming chain.....one long that drive both cam.I have use 2 old chain for the test so after I will have start it I will change it for a new one,I will take some picture.
The vertical cylinder fired up 280 degree after the other, since I have another point breaker for the vertical cylinder the timming will be easy

I don't understand how you ran 2 rods off the same pin, and kept them perfectly straight without any offset. Every engine I have ever seen that uses 2 rods on 1 journal / pin has the rods mounted side by side. Seems like one cylinder should be offset over to one side one rod thickness. How did you do It??? I hope the cylinder Is In the exact place so your cam chain can keep the cam timing correct. Is there going to be a Idler gear for the timing chain Inside the lower cases?

Radial style maybe? http://image.absoluteastronomy.com/images/encyclopediaimages/r/ra/radial_engine.gif

Are you aware that Lifan makes a V-twin? They have a 250cc version that is pretty cheap (eBay has one buy it now for $700), not sure what all they offer, but look around for a 2V49FMM. It's much more vertical than yours, more like a Harley (I know...blasphemy with Harley and Lifan in the same post), but might be something for others interested in something weird. I was trying to figure out how to cram one in a 200X frame, then decided I'd do my twin side by side (as in Banshee).

Both rod are side by side,I remove some material on each rod where the piston pin go,and some aluminium in the piston. And yes I have a idler gear for the timming chain.....built with the crankshaft timming sprocket, with a needle bearing pressed in.

i measured a lay down on my 00 xr 70 and my 77 xr 75 and it would fit easy if you modded the down tube the foot pegs mount to the motor just like some laydowns a xr 75 looks like a mini harley already it would look really cool with a v twin

I have 2 choice in my parts barn,a sl70,or a ct70,the ct70 would be a nice choice for a show bike, but the sl70 is easier to too...not sure,,,,The problem with the xl75 is that the original motor wasn't of this kind,I just don't want to put it in anything,I will use it in a bike where the original motor was of this shape, will look more original. I will complete the 250r and atc70 resto, and I will do this one after

Haley V-twins use a pr of rods inline on one crank pin

one rod knuckles around the other on both sides and the other rod sits right in between on same pin...did it like that for years

That is very cool man. Im pretty sure that you just opened a door to a new world of three wheelers. can you immagine a 350x like that??? haha or maybe just an R. I love the sound.

02-08-2011, 04:09 AM
i think that sound is from a missing pipe on one of the cylinders

A.) That is amazing!
B.) That is amazing!
C.) Who cares if Lifan did it first, you did it on your own with your own know how! There is no way I could ever dream that up, let alone implement it. Very cool! It should be in atrike though.
