This seems pretty crazy. Especially considering this item was auctioned first and went up to $250.00 but never met reserve. Now it's relisted starting at $900.

But re-finishing or even a perfect restoration is still not NOS/OEM!

NOS is over rated. Nothing that Honda did during the manufacturing process made this tank so much better that it would be worth that kinda money.

NOS is NOS my friend. A refinished tank will never be NOS and never get NOS money.

I think you are missing the point - for a rider that is find and yes - NOS if over-rated on a bike that will be a daily rider - but ask any die hard collector if he wants an $80 refinished tank that looks perfect , or a $900 NOS / OEM tank. That answer becomes obvious. To you it ain't right - but you are not doing an OEM restore.

It will be tough to get that for a 1st gen 200x tank imo. Maybe if it was a 2nd gen tank....

Kinda my feelings as well. Except I wouldn't kick his ass. I'd just point and laugh. I understand the "collector" mentality in wanting NOS but even for a collector this is outreagous. Maybe $500 at most IMO.

often wanting and getting are two differant things. he may want an arm and a leg but have to take just a finger to get rid of it. the market will let him know. i have also seen several times where people will post something like this to get some interest and then sell it for less outside of e bay. they just use ebay to find a couple potential buyers. but don't want to pay all the fees. that happens in the Oldsmobile world all the time.

I agree 100% One thing finding OLD nos parts take a lot of time too. Also some people put out Big $$$$ finding Old nos parts and buying dealers old stock. When you buy out Dealers old stock you even get a lot parts just do not get Top dollor .You have to sell them under what you paid . So on other put you have to make up for that . . I do use ebay to show people I have some good parts then sell off ebay every day.

NOS is over rated.

I'd have to disagree with that... One thing about NOS parts is that I'm never disappointed in the condition of the part. Unlike used stuff that looks good in the picture but when you get it in hand not so good. Especially if you pay good money for a used part it hurts even more. When I'm looking at a used part I always check to see if the part is still available from Honda and if its not too much more I'll go new. No disappointments. Just sayin'...
