Most of the time if they are stripped out already you won't even need the helicoil drill. Put lots of grease on the proper helicoil tap and tap a little at a time , then remove it, clean it and regrease it. Continue till your done.

I don't even buy the installation tool, only the tap. I just wind them up, keep slight downward pressure and use a screwdriver on the tang until you are just below the original top surface. Make certain it does not skip threads or remove the helicoil.

The tough part with an oil plug or spark plug is getting the "break off" tang once installed. I use a long very thin pair of needle nose to pull it up and out.

I have done hundreds of helicoils, never had one back out or fail and they are used on every NASA shuttle..............

I'd go with stainless. I had to turn mine down for proper fit.http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u104/beets442/0911100904.jpg
