I thought I’d post these for you Americans, as I know you love your bald eagles. We live on a beach and the people down the way get salmon carcass from a local processor and toss them out on low tides. I have some video I’ll try to post of probably 50+ eagles fighting away for the salmon. Since they started doing this the eagles have started hanging out in the trees beside our house so I can usually be watching one in a tree while I’m watching TV. It’s also pretty neat watching them hunting baby ducks. When my wife took these photos this morning she said she was watching 6 of them chasing and catching a big river rat.

Fantastic pictures! We don't actually get to see them live very often. There is a nest about an hour from me (Llano TX) and that's the only time I've seen them in the wild.

Great pics thanks for sharing. Here in CNY we have a growing population of Bald Eagles. They were re-introduced in the area north of here about 10 years ago or so. There is a pair that nest on the state park property where my wife works, and another nesting pair about 5 miles north of that. Both locations are only a few miles from my house. Just a couple weekends ago we were at my brothers house about 15 miles north of me for my nephews birthday party. We were riding the Ski-Doos around in the yard and watched one soaring directly over us in his yard. Last winter we were snowmobiling on Oneida Lake and caught up to one that had just taken off from the ice near a fishermans hole. He was flying about 30 feet off the ground and about 50 feet to my left. I matched its speed and got to do something alot of people dont riding along with it like that. I did not harrass it in any way in case anyone gets upset. Just rode along side and below it for about a mile. It was really cool. I love seeing them!

I get a few pairs of these on my farm about this time every year. These here were part of a group of 7-8 adults that were working on a fresh roadkill deer. One or two would be on the deer feeding and a couple would be hopping around the carcass squacking like mad trying to chase 'em off. The others would be sitting in the trees resting. They'd all change positions about every ten minutes with the full ones flying into the trees to rest. They had the deer down to just bones in 2 days!

Y'know, I really like the idea of a gigantic raptor that can eat a deer in two days as our National symbol.

Lucky to see alot of Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, and Raptors here in MT. Below Hauser Dam is a study center for Eagles. We'd fish there and pretty cool to see an Eagle hit the water 15 feet in front of you and come up with a fish and an Osprey steal it away 25 feet right above you. Me and the kids love seeing the birds of prey, it's a special deal. So many huge Eagles throughout the world, they are just amazing, here, check this out, but remember this is nature so it's kinda a little sad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XafAdkZIYKA&playnext=1&list=PL0844DA0D996F4EAA

Wow Hangandrattle! That vid was amazing!

On a sad note: I was driving on I-81 in my tractor trailer today and a big reddish-brown hawk flew up from the median and tried to fly diagonally across the highway. He flew right into my path, but despite my attempt to slow down enough for him to make it across, he got plastered on the front of the grill, tumbled up over the hood and into my wondshield and finally slid off the truck hood to the ground dead....Just couldnt slow down quick enough for him to have had a chance...:(

and Ben Franklin wanted the turkey as the national bird

Yeah, funny huh? He said something along the lines that the eagle was a dastardly, lazy character that watches the diligent osprey catch a fish and then tries to steal the fish from the osprey....I just cant take turkeys seriously, i see them all the time deer hunting...big goofy giant chickens! LOL!
