Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here so if im not putting this in the correct section please let me know. I have a 1977-79 Honda 110 atc (im not sure of the exact year I dont have the manual with me at the moment) Anyways I have had this atc for years and always just delt with not having 1st gear. I would really like to fix the problem now. Whats weird is when i put it in first gear it acts the same as if it is in neutral. It doest even attempt to buck or move a slight bit like if the gears wear jumping and not meshing properly. All the other gears work fine. What do you guys think could be causing this? Is it as simple as adjusting something or more complex like removing the whole unit and rebuilding it? The atc runs pretty good otherwise except for burning oil a little bit but thats exceptiable for the age of it lol. Also the carborator plunger gets stuck and will not idel down so i have to choke it to put in in gear, but thats not a big deal im just going to buy a new carb off of ebay. Thats issue only started recently. Thanks for the help everyone!!

ps. Im pretty sure the guy i bought it from years ago was really rought with it because the front arm was bent.

Pull the right clutch cover off and look at the shift parts . Sounds like their is a problem with the stopper paw or the star .

No you dont have to pull the motor just the right case . Look behind the large gear and see if the shift parts are working correct .

Ok great thanks for the help! I will do that tomorrow. If everything isnt working ok then is there an adjustment or something i could do without pulling the whole engine out or everything has to come out?

Make sure you drain the oil first!

After that, then pull the side cover and inspect the shift parts.

143259 On the center of clutch where that metal piece is there is 2 drilled holes on that metal piece. One hole has a bolt/pin through it, the other is just a empty hole. Should it be like that?

Yes I do have a manual for it but that doesnt help me. Ok thats what I thought, it seemed odd that there was only one pin. What does that piece actually do? I know it is right against the clutch but I dont get what it actually does. Thanks

That is just the coolest oddball, cam action semi rotational offset wobble piece I've ever seen.

I bet it really does need both rivets. because of it's eccentric rotational nature.

I'll go look, I have one apart but I need boots and a snowsuit to go outside.
oh
the words service manual
should light up and get you to the world class help section for a free manual.
If not, just go there and snag one

Thanks for the help! I looked in the manual but I cant really make it out. Its hard to tell from the picture. But could that part really be causing me not to have first gear? All the other gears work fine. Thanks!

To check the internal gears you will have to do a complete motor tear down. If your not very confident in doing this then you might want to have someone else do it for you or find another motor. I say this because there is a lot of parts to deal with in the inside.
