NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A federal official says a Yale University student died after her hair was pulled into a piece of equipment in a chemistry lab machine shop.

Kang Yi of the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration says the university informed his agency that Michele Dufault (doo-FOH') was operating the machinery for a senior project at the time of the accident Tuesday night.

Dufault was a senior majoring in astronomy from Scituate, Mass., and was due to graduate in a month. The lab is closed Wednesday and Yale is offering counseling to students.

Yi is the assistant area director for the OSHA office in Bridgeport, Conn. OSHA spokesman Ted Fitzgerald in Boston says the agency is reviewing jurisdiction in the case and evaluating whether it would conduct an inspection

UL labs got sued because some hot tub they approved, sucked in some long hair
lady to the bottom from one of the intake jets.

Long haired mechanic friend got his head slammed
into the radiator when , well, you can imagine.

Not sure if it was funny home videos, but some girl got
1/2 way down some teather line/Zip? line and her hair got caught up in the
pulley and stopped the 'trolley harness pulley just about
the middle of a ravine crossing. (60 ft drop?)

A helmet wouldn't help a fall but would have kept her hair in place.
