I will be taking a trip to Germany in the next couple of weeks. I have flown commercially many times, but every time I did it was with the military. There was no security screening, no rules about what we could or couldn't pack in our bags, etc. The long and short is, I have no idea about what I can and cannot bring on a plane with me.

I'm guessing things like soaps and shampoos are fairly limited. What about my wallet chain? Can I just wear it like I normally do? Can I even pack that in my bag?

Are there any things I should pack that I might not otherwise think of?

I have cash I can bring with me to use. Should I just leave my cash at home?

How about a razor for shaving? Like a regular Mach 3 or whatever?

Thanks guys.

Get a piece of sheet metal cut out in the shape of a hand gun to put in your carry on bag. Be sure to write ha ha on it. They like jokes at the airport.

Honestly I think you would be best just to buy those things when you get there. If they wont allow fingernail clippers, I dont think the wallet chain will be welcomed.

Imagine being frisked by the cops.. Anything you would worry about the cops catching you with leave at home. As far as the chain wallet probably not. I had to tear the chain off mine 10 years ago to get inside a Marilyn Manson show. I don't know how they would feel about that.. Pocket knifes are verboten. Shampoo and stuff will probably pop open in your bag anyways. Seal it in a seperate bag if you do take it. get to the airport at least 2 hours before your flight.

The new thing is the 3 ounce rule. If you are doing a carry on all liquids, gels, and creams need to be 3 ounces or less AND everything must fit in a 1 quart size zip lock bag. Razor for shaving is fine on carry on.

If you check the bag then the above issues don't apply. Check www.tsa.gov for more info

I flew last time right before Thanksgiving. I just wore my chain wallet and they gave me no hassles. I also wear steel toe or composite to shoes and they gave me no hassles about those either. Now this was just from MD to FL, so not sure if different standards for overseas flights. I didn't take soap or shampoo or razor or toothbrush or anything like that. It wasn't worth the hassle for me. I'm sure there are plenty of places like that overseas. Also, not sure if places overseas will take the US dollar or you have to get the Euro? Enjoy your trip. I would love to go to Germany. UPS would hate me as I would be shipping a ton of stuff back. Especially a couple of boxes of Kinder Eggs! Yummy! LOL

another point . I went to Invasion last month and through all my connector flights via a couple airports TSA never gave me a pat down . 3 razors is dead on with the baggie for liquids ; all the airports were stern about that rule . If you want to board even quicker request a wheel chair ( that was awesome ! ) because you get boarded before everyone !! J/K ....never had to do that before until that trip but you get treated like royalty . Didn't see any chain issues . Good luck with your travels .

And when they tell ya they have to strip search ya and do a full body cavity search, IT'S NOT TRUE, oh fabiodriven, I don't know how many times I've fell for that one over the years....till' I finally figured it out. In the back of my mind I can still hear the 'snap' of the rubber gloves, still send's chills up my spine........lol, be safe partner. My childhood buddy now lives there, he's an Apache pilot who trains now, great country.

Do you have Facebook Todd? Plenty of pics on there.

I didn't go to Amsterdam Don. That was my backup plan if my Russian friend was a no-show or if she just plain sucked. She wasn't a no-show and I really enjoyed her company, so I didn't end up going to Amsterdam.

I met mine on a free Russian dating site. It is not your traditional "Mail order bride" situation. When guys get a mail order bride, they pay agencies, translators, sometimes they even have to pay to message the women. There are many scams out there. I met this girl on this site http://freepersonals.ru/ and I haven't spent a dime on her. We talk on Facebook, either through messages or IM. We use Google translate to translate our messages back and forth. She speaks almost no English and I do not speak Russian. Guys go out and spend tens of thousands of dollars to do what has cost me about $1600. That money was what the trip to Germany cost me.
