why is it they can sell motorcycle trikes? the demensions and shape are still the same so what makes them legal and atc not legal to make? i dont get it?

My simple answer would be ,,None of them make trikes. All the trikes I see are kits,,put on after the machine is built by the OEM. Now that I say that. I do know some of the chinese manufacturers are Are importing trikes. Hmmmm,must have very good insurance.

Im pretty sure there are some makers making true trikes. I have seen some trikes that are nothing more than a bike with a couple of adult sixed training wheels attatched. But others seem to be a true trike. I think they have differentials, and that may be the key. But, I have asked that same question myself...

I think it's leagal to build on road trikes but not off road trikes. I may be wrong but something I read gave me that impression.

The consent decree is gone. It expired in 1999,I believe. It WOULD be legal to produce 3 wheelers as we speak. Would it be wise? No,not even With the best insurance company in the world,AND notarized agreements with EVERY unit,,stating I am 100% responsible for ANYTHING that happens to me, or anything around me while operating this unit,Including but not limited too,Death,maimimg,a cut,a burn,paralysis,etc...... I hold the manufacturer 100% NOT liable for any bad things that happen to me. Etc,,,, I have VERY seriously wanted to try,,I have SOME connections overseas,and with an enormous amount of headaches,,COULD be importing nice fresh shiny 3 wheel ATV"S. I just don't feel it's worth it,and many other things have popped up in my life leaving me hog tied if I did want too.

I would say produce a conversion kit..Just as they did to make a 3 to 4 wheeler. I would bet that you could pust that through the system. All i ask is i want 0.8 cents on every $1.00.

I honestly thought about trying to manufacture a 3 wheeler myself (so dreaming) but... permitting our shitty government would allow it.... it wouldn't be difficult to mass produce them once again. the motors are out there....the metal is there....the parts you can still find places...and i'm sure if you got something legitimate running a corporation would jump right on it to make a profit..... its feasible...

The general publics opinion about trikes has been misconstrued to the point where there is no proving to them that they are just as safe as 4 wheelers, and therefore as a direct result, the sales would be low, so low that it's probably not even worth it to the manufacturers to produce them again, even if they only produced one trike.
