I MUST be surrounded by honda trikes and guitars.
..everywhere.
Nice work.
Just don't forget to play every day.

If I play scales for 20-30 seconds every morning,
my Whole day is different.

Since the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body
etc, it almost HAS to tune US up.

I know the feeling. I had 13 guitars at one time, now I am down to 6. I havent played much in the last 6 years. I cut my middle finger on a miter saw and it messed the tip of my finger up, it is very sensative

I started playing slide a few years back.
Cheap acoustic guitars with high action, loose necks are ok.

Tune to an open chord and play it like a lap steel.
or pedal steel.

Leo Kottke is prob the most inspirational.

What are the multiple surgeries about, if you don't mind us knowing?

I need to play on of my electrics and try to get my fingers used to playing again. All of the surgeries are because I have cancer, there is a thread on here telling all about my cancer. I have found alot of help on here with that too. there are a great bunch of guys on here.

My best friend works at a cancer center here in Oregon for 20 years.

I'll re read your posts and ask her some questions this weekend.

Django Reinhardt changed the world of guitar playing and he used 2 (TWO)
fingers.
Then there was a guy on Johnny Carson that played with his Feet!

Yeah, get a cheap acoustic, tune it to an open G chord and find a
deep socket, like 3/4 inch diameter and 4" long,
guitar flat on your lap facing up and there are really only
open, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 12th positions and have kept me busy for Years.

ANYthing to get both sides of your body connecting with opposite sides
of ones brain...the reason babies cross crawl before they can walk or
even talk for that matter.

All it takes is a minute or 2 a day to reinforce the connections.

..and yes, the folks on here are not just a bunch o' mud monkeys.
I got my &%$@ kicked by these guys when I found out my dear friend
was gambling.

Holy crap, I thought I was in some expensive therapy group.

...and mere mortals think this is all about tricycles and little red wagons.

As John Bon Jovi said, "I can always have another childhood".

I played for a couple hours this week when I was at my parents. Me and my brother changed the pickups in my strat that I made, he sells guitar parts and had a set of 59 fender reissue pickups that he gave me. I can wait until he get all of the parts to put together my next one. I think it will be the best on yet.

For some reason, I wound up with a telecaster pickup in the bridge position on
an 'assembled' strat 'elite'.
Strange oddball stratocaster for sure.
Not sure how long they made them but the biggest difference is
cord jack is into the edge of the body wood and none of the normal
strat pickup guards will fit.;

Sounds reallyreally cool with that tele pickup in the bridge position.

Thta body has an 80's? early 90's Warmouth neck with the compound radius.
The fret radius changes along the length of the neck like 22 different big circles.

Warmouth happened to have left handed strat style necks on sale for 90 bucks
so that's what this one got.
I think the 'correct' one was over 300.

My personal problem is my addiction to old Hagstrom guitars from Sweden.

Pretty sure I have almost one of each model.

Sold a couple on ebay that actually went back to Sweden.

Warmed my heart.

Might have to go back thru and see if any of the other ones want to go back home.

They would only use far north hardwoods/maple for the necks with super tight grain
and a minimum of 400 years old.

The truss rod is an i beam designed by saab so the necks will never warp.

I was buying them at a time when no one knew what they were
so most were under 100 bucks.

Great distraction for sure.

The Boston longevity study says that being creative adds 5 years
among other thing.

Just don't forget to play them after all that work, even if it's only as couple minutes a day.

I have been playing a little more. I love the sound of a telecaster, I had a 2000 american tele but I had to sell it when I moved. The Tele style guitar that I am working on will have the fender twisted tele pickups, all american fender hardware. the body is two different types of wood, swamp ash and cedar. I just used some scrap that I had and glued it all together I think its about 8 peices, I have it cut in 2 inch strips and alternating between the 2 types of wood. I cant wait to get it finished

I'm sure that thing will Siiiiiing!

Alternating different woods can be amazing.
They seem to have different 'frequencies' that they like to resonate at.

I had a signal generator and I'd put the headphones around the wood and see what freqs it liked.

I've got some kiln dried mill ends that actually hurt my ears when I
split or toss them either onto each other stacking it or
tossing an armload onto the concrete floor.

They'd almost make good (annoying) wind chimes if any of that makes sense.

I guess there Are those wood dowel looking teak or some kinda wood
instruments that you tap together.
Not sure of the name but what are those instruments that
have like 30 or more different sized wood strips and gets played with
padded mallets?

Kinda like a wooden glockensphiel
or one of those marching band things with all the different sized metal
blocks tuned to all the notes.

wow, sorry.

now if only I could selectively eliminate some distasteful memories
as well as I forget my musical instrument history.

Wasn't there a sitar type solid body electric that had some hefty chunk o' metal
that would help it drone in some certain frequency?

Ever seen acoustic guitars with 10 or so drone strings?
They just sit there and glow as you play.

Kinda like the old violin makers secret.

Play a cheap violin in a room Full of violins and the thing sounds incredible.

Take it outside or home and it just doesn't (can't) sound the same.

Sounds like you're having fun.

I get to do my projects in my living room and it drives my gf nutts,
carbs in the kitchen, guitar parts everywhere.

I need a shop too.
She says I need a garage with a house attached.

We're just trying to make the whirld a better place, right?

Take it easy and I hope things are going smoother for you.

I thought about putting a metal rod inside of an electric guitar body as I was glueing it together, to see what it would do to the sound, havent tried it yet.

I built a bass out of the red cedar and it sounds great, so I am hoping that the combination of cedar and swamp ash is the perfect tone wood.
Things are going alright for me, I feel good and I am still doing about anything I want to

yeah, my limitations are real.

Unless I do exactly what I feel like doing,
precisely When...I feel like doing it, I get into trouble and can't
walk at all.

So after feeling sorry for myself for a short time, I realized, isn't that what EVERYone wants?

Lots of music, playing, studio time, trikes and tractors
and the summer festivals here with visitors from around the world.

I wish the weather would break and get a little more predictable
but then again, the weather channel makes me feel fortunate
and lucky to not have the sky attack and destroy everything
at any given moment.

I just heard that there's an indoor miniature golf course somewhere close.

What keeps us all sane is the fact that there are music studios everywhere.

I even built one upstairs in the barn. 20X30 with a 12 ft high center beam
and drums and pa are all set up and instruments hanging around mostly out
of their cases so there are no excuses.

We've had drizzling rain almost every day so it's not real fun
to jump and run outside.
Thank god there are electric start trikes outside every door
and the farm has creekbeds and a river, open fields and trails
and a place to shoot and fly kites but I gotta say,
sometimes it's a challenge to stay motivated.
