I picked up this old RIGID brand horizontal band saw at a auction the other day and can't find any info about it online. I was hoping for a PDF manual or parts sheet or something.

Here is the only picture of one like mine I found on Google.
http://i54.tinypic.com/2mnrev6.jpg

I tore mine down to clean it up and didn't get a pic of it together.

Does anyone know anything about these saws?

I got the stand and saw base painted and put together tonight. I'm not going crazy makeing this thing ''pretty'' like my lathe but I cant stand to have a new to me tool and have it crusty.

That looks just like the one I got at harbor frieght if its the same you can switch it to a vertical band saw if it came withe the plate and arm its pretty simple if your not missing anything. Your lucky I wish I had a lathe cause I could make my own parts then(certain parts) I'm curious can you make threads or taper stuff on your lathe?

I have only used this saw 2 times and 1 of those times was vertically, works real well in both positions.

Yes, I can thread with my lathe and have done some tapers with it.

You must have a pretty good lathe I have used 3 different types one could do the thread and taper the others could only thread and one was the belt set up(change speeds using the belt others were lever adjusted). The stand on your band saw looks a little more sturdier than mine.

I think someone just plopped a RIGID sticker on it, I believe it looks like one of those 200$ band saws with some supports and wheels.

They work fine, mine works fine, I just don't think yours is an expensive model......

No DC it is a RIDGID and WAY heavier then those imports. The pic I posted of it all dirty is from google and mine looks the same. I highly doubt 2 guys made fake RIDIGD bans saws with the metal tags that are stamped RIDGID TOOL CO.

This Number did tell me it uses a 46.5'' blade but thats all I can find out.

I had HRE weld this guide mount up for me. The stock unit was thin cast iron and was cracked in half.

I ordered 2 new bearings for in the gear box and NAPA ordered the wrong ones, but when the right ones come in it will done!

Well, I got to use it tonight for the first time with it in 100% working condition. I cut a 1'' thick 4'' wide solid steel plate and it cut perfectly straight according to my Stanly square!

Here is a shot of the stop I made for it.

I still need to make a quard for the pulleys and mount my table for when it is standing up but it is able to cut now.

I stopped in at HRE today we whipped up a 1/8'' thick aluminum belt guard. It turned out super nice IMO, I just need to polish it or paint it and apply the RIDGID decal I made at work today.

HAHAHA...so true!

It does look funny in the pics but yes the teeth point towards the back.

I found out Emerson is the company who built my saw. They built many saws for different places like Sears and others. They even made Craftsman tool when they were being made here in the U.S.A....when they were built right!

I found a guy who bought his RIDGID saw brand new and it looks just like mine but his is the next bigger size. He said his was bought in the mid 70s and it was $1200 back then! These were not cheap saws buy any means it seems. The Sears saw Emerson made was the same as mine but the stand was real cheap. It only had one front leg (think 3 wheeler) and the rear legs just look weaker then mine, and it had no tray like mine has. So I guess each place that Emerson made saws for had different bases, some better then others.

Thats what I found out last night.......tonight I got the belt guard mounted and the decal installed and I mounted the table I made for it for when I stand it up.

I can leave the table mounted and still use the band saw hoizonialy, which is handy.

Skoal can for scale.

Now I'm calling it done as far as need to do things. I'd still like to add a blade brush to it to clean chips off the blade so the wheels and rollers don't get fouled...we'll see.

I like the band saw part. I am going to have to come up with somthing like that for mine.

I like the permanent table too. I don't want to deal with a table that I'd have to mount then remove all the time.

I bet it works as a gard to. I find with mine if I am cutting little pieces (an inch or less) that it goes right into the bearing that guides the blade and james everthing up.

SWIGIN

You know what, I think your right about it acting like a guard. I got to use it a good bit today and every time I'd cut off a little piece it would fly back into the table. When I seen what was happening I thought '' wow, I'm glade that tabe is on there'' ....lol

I can't believe that you haven't rigged up a little pump that directs cutting fluid on the area that you are cutting. All our saws here at work have them.

I did think about that but it's big enough already and the blade hardly gets warm after a 10 minute cut. I'm starting to not want to add a flood system.

The table?

It works perfect, just big enough to work nice and still fits when it's cutting horizontaly.

I made some giant jaws for my saw tonight.

http://i53.tinypic.com/jhfx1k.jpg

I got tired of not being able to cut small lengths in my saw because the jaws were so far away from the blade. Now I could cut something thats 1/2'' long in half!

http://i55.tinypic.com/2lsy5np.jpg

http://i54.tinypic.com/spabso.jpg

The old jaws were 2 1/2'' angle that is 1/4'' thick, the new jaws are 3 1/2'' angle thats 1/2'' thick.....I doubt I'll bend them...lol
