View Full Version : Need help id the year of 250r motors

I have 2 liquid cooled 250r motors that I got in a pile of parts I bought. Can anyone help me figure out what year they are and also ATC or TRX? Tell me what #'s you need and I will get them. How do you tell long rod from short? What are the measurements? Thanks.

The serial numbers would help in identifying them.

The serial numbers will be on top of the left crankcase on the bottomend.

Both have TB06E on them and under that is:
8104397
the other:
2420173

The 2420173 is a 1985 250r.
I am asuming the other is a TRX250r motor. I don't have the ID manual handy to tell for sure.

engine numbers 8100014-8109454 are from 1988...

Cool that is the one I picked to put in my 88 trx 250r.

Interesting Skippy. If those are the only motor serial numbers for 1988, then they only would have made a maximum of 9440 1988 TRX250r's. I am sure some motors were sold seperate though.

Hmmmm, To bad we don't know the start and stop vin numbers for all the 3 wheelers they made. ;)

so what did i just buy ??? the data plate is missing ( ? ) from the gooseneck.

and on the gooseneck area the frame number of

jhstb0603dc213002 ( i know it's a air cooled honda 250r )
is the motor original to the frame ???

i dont have the info on the stuff from 80-85, but i got the numbers for the 85-on stuff.. and the frame numbers dont match the motor numbers!

The numbers indicate a 1983 atc250r and the motor is the same year. I was thinking that the last motor numbers and the last vin numbers should match. Maybe I am wrong.

1988 Engine TB06E- 9100014- 8109454
frame TE120 JK200011 to JK209449

1989 Engine TB06E- 8200001- unk
frame TE KK300001- unk

p.s. i thk in the earlier post i left out a zero! :D
