My first car, that I could use as a DD(I'd bought and sold a few before I was able to drive em legally), was, and still is, a 91 SHO. It has a steady diet of Rice. Not blew it, but the tranny is one rough skank.

1970 F-100. 390FE, three speed stick (originally 3 on the tree), 2wd. Thing was really fast. I surprised many people in that truck. Threw a rod through the block.

My first road legal vehicle was a 57 chevy pickup with the small back window. My dad paid $25 for it. It was a farm "do it all" kind of truck and it came complete with the little orange triangle on the tailgate. It wasn't tagged, but it had a title. In Virginia at the time, you could run an untagged vehicle for so many miles around a farm with that little orange triangle. It was 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree. It needed a ton of work. No power steering, no power brake and front and rear 6 bolt brake drums. My dad bought it for my 15th birthday. I got a job on the car lot where he worked and I did everything from wash windows, to scrub toilets and fill the literature racks to washing cars and emptying the trash cans back in the shops. Every tuesday and thursday night after work, the owner would let the guys use the garage area to work on personal vehicles, so you could use the lifts and welders and shop tools and alignment rigs and the whole deal. The mechanics knew me and like me and helped me pull my engine and trans and rebuild the 6 and new seals and clutch in the trans and new bearings and seals in the rear and just get the truck in road worthy shape in general. My buddy in school, got a 396 chevelle for his birthday, he was several months older than me, and promptly ran it into some trees. His dad was going to scrap the car, but the drive train was good, and I got him to sell me the car for the drive train, so big block and 4 speed went into the truck as well as the rear. So I had 6 bolt front drums and 5 bolt rear drums on the truck for awhile until I bought a later model power brake system from a junkyard truck and put all that in place as well as the power steering box and got that all hooked up and working. But for a longer time, I had to sort of bend down to use the shifter from the chevelle, so that was kind of screwy until I got the old trusty Mister Gasket universal shifter! LOL We call it the surfer truck as the doors and fenders were full of waves! LOL My buddies and me painted the truck gloss black lacquer in the back yard. Thinned it out to about 300% and started shooting, even while the neighbor was mowing his lawn! LOL I can't remember how many coats of lacquer and all the hand sanding, but we didn't have any long sanding blocks, so that is where the waves came in. That was the such a fun truck, gun rack and all! LOL And I was the big deal as my truck had a sparkomatic casette tape player in it as well!!! And the best part was, I hauled my poor little stock atc90 everywhere in that truck with a couple wood planks to get the trike in and out of the bed. I didn't fix my 90 up until after the truck was sold and I was in the navy.

I had a 64 Ford F-100 Custom Cab short bed step side.It had a 292 V-8 3 speed in it.Of course it used to be on the column.Converted to the floor with a crappy Hurst Indy shifter.Took me a long time to get the shifter to work nice with a short throw.Only problem was it would jam up.Wasn't fun when you were out on date all dressed up and had to crawl under to un-jam it.It was in really good shape when I bought it with on 36000 miles on it.Plus the price was great at $900.It already had aluminum slots on it with fat rubber on the back painted black.Plus bucket seats were already installed.I had to cut a hole in the dash to mount up the Pioneer Super Tuner tape deck.It never let me down once. One thing that sucked was the distributor was stuck fast in the motor and cheap points didn't las long.Had to carry a nail file in the glove compartment for emergencies.Plus a spare set of points if things got really bad.I could change them out in the dark, even though the distributor was in the back. You had to lay on top of the motor and turn the fan with hand to gap them.Burnt my wrist on the exhaust that crossed over the front of the motor a few times. In the winter just put on some new snow tires and add a little weight in the back.It went like a tank with the posi-rear.Highway travel stunk since in high gear at 60 mph it tached out at 3 1/2 rpms.I abused that thing for many years and really miss it these now.Only thing I have left is a original Ford Cobra Jet hoodscoop that was on it.

I had one of those on my F-100 too. The one with the blinker indicators on the back side, right?

On a side note, the night I threw the rod through the block of my FE I also lost my virginity. True story.

Now that you mention it- I swear I am not making this up. After we were done boning (in my truck) I went to start it and the battery was stone cold dead. My battery terminal was loose and the battery wasn't charging. We both had to push the truck backwards from where we were parked and then she pushed it forward from the back while I pushed on the door and hopped in to bump-start it. That was just after we both lost our virginity to each other. That girl was a sweetheart. If I knew then what I know now... *sigh*

not to change the subject but atleast you were in a truck. mine and her first was in a vacant lot at an intersection. cars were flashing their lights and honking at at us lol. ahh to be young again... My first car was an 86 ford tempo that I let my brother borrow and he rolled it 100 ft. from our driveway then I got a 75 dart . true grandma car had 60,000 miles and in perfect shape I paid 17.00 bucks for it. it was a 2 door and if someone got out of the back on the driver side and you left the seat foreward it would push right on the horn! not right away usaully after 10-15 min at a underage party and there my horn is drawing attention

I used to have a girl that would wash my truck for me.She was a real sweaty and enjoyed all the things I did.Dumby treated her badly and I liked to play the field. These days things are much more relaxed and I did find another girl that enjoys the same things I do.So I really only lost the truck.Wish I had it back, sigh.

nope it was a 428. This one was actually a Merc engine from a 66 Parklane. It directly bolted up to the 390 which was orignally in the big old Galaxie, or any FE Ford engine like the 427,428,390,352.
the 428 came in fairlanes and mustangs as well....Im not really a ford guy either, but some of my friends are.

And a much better engine family than the 385 family in my opinion. My 390 had soo much balls it was ridiculous. It had an Offenhauser 360 degree intake, an Edelbrock 600, and full length headers that went to about 2 feet of 2.5 inch pipe and then a set of Cherry Bombs. It was ugly, loud, and fast. I used to rev it to the moon. The valves never floated once. All I have left of it is the intake.

The 385 family consisted of the 370, 385, 429 and 460. I've had a couple of smog-era 460's and they suck. They can't breath and they don't make any power. I haven't had any experience with hi-po 460's from back in the day or a modern built one, so I am biased a bit.

The FE had many different sizes. Far too many to list here. The most common ones are the 330, 352, 360, 390, and 428. The more uncommon ones are the 406, 410, and the best of them all, the 427. A 427 side-oiler is one helluva motor, but not the cream of the crop when it comes to FE's. The uber-rare 427 SOHC was the bees knees. I'm fairly certain those weren't even available on the street, but they're out there.

I've actually been somewhat tempted to build an FE for my 85 Mustang.

I had a 1984 Datsun/Nissan Pickup, 4x4 King Cab. Got totaled while parked in my yard on the 4th of July 3 years ago. A local lawyer was drunk and ran the stop sign across the road from my house, his BMW Z4 was in pieces, but the truck still ran, frame was bent though. His insurance had to pay but he got out of any charges, since he ran from the scene they couldn't "prove" he was there. Funny part was my also drunk neighbor told me "I tried to chase him, was going to whoop his *** for you, but I was too drunk."

I got a new 1999 Chevy Cavalier Z24. Yeah, yeah I was one of those kids that got a new car from their parents when they turned 16. That thing was actually pretty sweet. Power everything with a moon roof and CD player. Also had 150hp 4-banger in a small car so it got up and went pretty good.

My daily driver now when I'm 28 is a Saturn that is a year older than that car with 30 less hp lol

haha yeah I know. When I was 21 I traded the Cavalier on a new 04 GTO that was quite a bit faster than the old Cavy. Kept the hot rod till 3 summers back when I sold it to buy a bigger house. It was a cool car but not worth what it was costing me per month. Here's the last pic I have of it. A guy from Michigan drove 14 hours round trip to buy it. I wish I still had her sometimes

My first ride was a 1974 Porsche 914. 2.4Ltr Snyder Cam, and Porsche 911 exhaust. That car was Satan reincarnated! It was one problem after another! It sat for a year, I did all the prep work on the body during that time. When I went to start it nothing happened. Found out that mice had got into the wiring. I bump started it and it was running great, about a mile down the road I heard awful screaching. I had blown a machined welch plug out of the block, pissed out all the oil and ruined the engine. Did I mention it was almost a brand new motor when I bought it? Anyways, a family "friend" was doing the body work and he took for ever. The engine was done and the guy that rebuilt it needed the motor out of his shop. The body work guy "Orange Peeled" the paint. I put the motor in the car, broke it in properly and then the car went back to the body shop to be resanded and painted. Had the car back two days was heading down the road and ended up spinning it into a ditch to avoid hitting a lady in an Expedition that was on her phone not paying attention. The cop that came to the wreck was her neighbor and a cop we had suspended when I was younger. He said it was entirely my fault. He didn't interview the witnesses or anything. We hired a P.I. and sued her company. A year later I got half of the money from her insurance company needed for the repairs. I sold the car and washed my hands of it!

73 GMC 3/4 ton. I pulled in the icy parking lot to my dish washing job and took the whole back off of a car. I parked 10 spaces down from the accident. Tried to tell the manager, she told me I was interrupting her and she was busy....... She wouldn't let me tell her. I tried 3 times in an hour and said "screw it".

All I got was a dent in the bumper, the car was close to or was totaled........

97 chevy 1500 reg cab long box with the 350 vortec. bought it in 07 when i was 15 with 122k for 4000, now at 160xxx and a kid offered me 4000 for it so idk how much longer ill have it. served me well, got rearended by a lil car, car got totaled, he hit the air bag sensor on my drop hitch haha and then lost it off a gravel road at like 60 mph, smoked a bunch of big wood fence posts and finally hit a big ol oak but it never set anything off and i have a dent the size of a quarter in my hood lol it is a chevy so i wouldnt expect any less from her haha

@atc200kid

the big dent you see in the bed on passenger side is from drifting at 55 on gravel and mowing down a speed limit sign lol

school bus yellow, 1975 Dodge PowerWagon 100...318, 3 in the tree with crappy linkage that locked up under the hood all the time. 65 was damn near the top speed down hill but even with just the 318 it would pull about anything you hooked up to it. throw it in low-lock and fling some clumps! i miss that old truck!
