I picked up a Bayou that the guy said it needed a "tune up". I went and looked and it was a nice quad just would only dle you couldnt give it gas. I thought itd be a simple fresh gas, oil, plug, carb clean but no. I cleaned the carb 3 times now and set the dle and air to 2.5 turns. I have no idea what else to look at it has spark compression and fuel. It will idle sometimes but then t will idle real rough and then die and it sounds like the starter catches as it shuts off. Any suggestions would be great.

Any ideas? Ive gone through this carb about 5 times now and cant seem to find anything wrong. All passages were sprayed woth carb cleaner and then blown through with a compressor. At this point im thinking electrical because the center key console was removed and wires are connected as the key. also there are 2 wires near the battery that arent connected that has me thinking maybe ts electrical. will it still idle if it was something electrical?

adjust the valves and make sure you take the jets out of the carb and see that every hole is free and clear, also make sure the fuel inlet on the carb is clear (there may be trash above the needle valve) the fuel lines are free and clear and the pickup in the tank is clear. check for air leaks around the intake to the engine as well, what condition is the airfilter?

I would definitely check the wire situation out. I would think that it would not run at all, but maybe the wires go to the neutral switch and it dies when in gear. I think SYKO's sdvice is good also. You need to check your intake valve lash. Is it backfiring or any weird noises like that?

I checked the valves and they seemed to be in spec. Ive cleaned the carb thoroughly so i dont think its the carb. There might either be an air leak or im thinking electrical. Not really any other noises cept when it dies quick the starter sounds like it hangs up. Going to grab a plug right now and if that doesnt work i gotta figuire out this wring.

Plug made no difference...

Ok I just looked at the float height and it was way low. Im not entireley sure on how to adjust it but i got it to 17 mm but then the needle valve doesnt move up or down but it seems to idle a ton better.
