Dammit!

Now keep in mind I don't know much about making a website. I just used wordpress which is a little limiting but whatever it gets the job done.

This is basically a "home page" if you will where I can post information/links to different projects I get involved in. It's also kind of a test for some other pages I want to put together so this one got to be the guinea pig because it's the simplest.

Anyway, I'm giving away some music mp3's from a demo I did years ago on there. If anybody here likes instrumental guitar music you might like it. I'll be posting any film/video projects and news in there that I feel are noteworthy also.

www.dougnotter.com

Any constructive feedback on the site welcome since I'm just getting the hang of it. I want to add more to it but I'm not sure what else to put up there at the moment.

Nice work.
Most folks have no idea how much time it takes to get a 3 minute song 'done'.

A local producer tells me that ya gotta hook 'em (music buyers)
in the first 10-20 seconds or they'll start talking
about other stuff. and talk thru the 'killer leads' and other best parts.

'They' know so much about what they're looking for that they can hear potential
if it was recorded on an old answering machine.

let's see, what else....
Oh, this local 15 yr old kid wrote a la ti da song
about the angst between her and her brother but DISNEY picked it up for
a movie!

..and then ol' tim johnson from the local H.S. here, wrote something that
Allen Jackson picked up for his 'new' album (couple years ago)
and $750,000.00!!!!!!!

The definition of 'art'?
Always roll tape.

Have you heard the snippets of killer rock and roll that opens and closes segments on
Pawn Stars and other discovery channel shows?
They're like 10 second segments that you'd hear as the guitar player tunes up.

We keep a background recorder going all the time and just let it run as we do the
'serious' tracks.

Ya never know, ya know?

Keep up the good work.

Agreed 100%. It's a ton of work (especially when you're doing everything but the drums yourself) and this one was complicated by the gear we had (ADAT's that randomly decided to eat tapes which made me nervous as hell to do too many re-takes). 90% of the lead work on there was just improvised in a take or two. I would have liked to go back polish it up a bit but I didn't want to risk losing another tape.

Man what I would have done for something like pro tools or logic back in those days. All this great software makes me want to write some new stuff but I had to sell all my gear over the last few years. I'm down to just one guitar left and no amps.

WHAT?????????

NO AMP??????????????
duuuude,

I just got an extra PV 30 for 20 bucks. you can HAVE it!
Came from a computer recycle store.
I also got a copy of pro tools that I'll prob never use.
All my geek friends have their stuff up and running so I'll I gotta do is
show up and play.

I'm losing patience for geeking and clicking esp when I'm trying to navigate
an 8 string bass or 12 with slide.

The thing that has me totally intrigued is my friend
said.

play it again, play it again...
huh?

Apparently you can play OVER tracks, make mistakes at Different points and
then mix 'em together somehow run right over and eliminate the problem areas.

I've tried
'audacity'
a free recording program with open source code.

I just played an acoustic NEAR my laptop and it worked great.
Plugged a bass into the laptop and it worked great.
6 string electric direct into the computer, input near the headphone jack and it worked great.

Free too.

I actually have Pro Tools 8 and Logic Pro 9. I don't even have room to put an amp anywhere right now. I need a little box to interface my guitar right into my Mac and see how that works. Pro Tools comes with a box that I think will work but I need to go hook up with one of my former teachers and get some amp simulators/plugins for PT.

Nothing will compete with the Mesa rig I had though. Tri-Axis + 2: Ninety combo with a couple recto cabs. Insane tone. Completely spoiled me too. Nothing else will do anymore.

Thank you! I actually don't have any cd's even for myself anymore. That's one of the reasons I did this because people still ask for copies from time to time. I figured this way they can just download it. Did you try right clicking on the link and using the save as option? It's working for me right now. I'd like to figure out what's causing the problem if it's still doing it.
