Here's the short story. On page 7 of last week's Cold Lake Sun, an elderly gentlemen wrote a story thanking all his friends, family and associates for his wonderful time as a "greeter" for the past five years. He has decided to retire because the manager has taken his stool away for some unknown reason:crazy:. He man even wrote that he has a doctors note stating he needs to be off his feet periodically. This man is the niceast guy you'll ever meet. Total BS if you ask me.
My daughter catches wind of this and organized a silent protest for tonight in front of WalMart where people are going to bring there stools to sit on. See the Facebook Group " Silent protest on stools in front of Wal-marts doors for a great cause!!!! Newcap TV is coming, as well as the local paper; and we have recently heard WalMart is sending up a district rep from Edmonton. The RCMP have been notified by the d-bag manager too, lol. She has made it clear that this is not against WalMart. It is about employability for all, recognizing the skills and needs of all age groups, tolerance and diversity. I'm proud of her taking a stand. So much for lazy teenagers, she's turned into a pitbull!

Thanks for the kind words ATC007. The misses just told me the elderly man who wrote the letter is sitting in his car waiting for the show to begin. It's supposed to start at 5 PM. Wish I wasn't at work right now :-( I'll keep updating this post as things progress; with pics too!

Really...as a manager I think I'd be more worried about stealing, sickdays vs labor scheduals, and mislabbled prices in the clearance eiles. Aren't the greeters allowed to be old nice personal types. Whats a stool for someone who most likely is making less than$6.00 an hr. Look if the guy was roofing houses for me he wouldn't cut it...but he's not applying for that position. If the area rep has any clue at all...the manager would be set under a microscope...all employees would be gathered for a review amungst your workers. I'd also look to past hire/fire records and call a few of the people let go and get their opinion. Sometimes people of little minds have a hard time with a position of athority. The term of POWER going to their heads is a fatial flaw. Good decision making is posessed by VERY few...Some lead by example, others on wisdom and experance...some get the job on looks or who they know. Sounds like the later to me...hope the rep has enough sence to go have a chat with the fella in the car.

whats next? are they going to take the wheelchair away from the mentally challenged paraplegic that greets shoppers? I effin hate walmart, home depot.lowes and all the other big box stores! they have put so many family run local businesses out of business. If it werent for the older generations that realize this my business would be done as well

We have 2 old Wal-Mart buildings in our town of 11,000 people. They are both sitting empty. We now have a super Walmart 2 miles outside of town.. I worked at the WalMart distribution center in Oklahoma and WalMart took real good care of its employees. The work however is for 18 year old kids... I was orderfilling on a walkie rider in a 30 degree 3 story refrigerator, and sometimes in the -30 freezer.. I did it for 4 months, the money was good, thankfully something better came along.

I too hate walmarts and other big superstores. Sure, they're easier, and cheaper, even though there's probably not a single American made item in the store, but they KILL business in a town, KILL families income from local businesses being shut down, it's just bad. Athen, AL used to have tons of small shops, and auto shops, mechanic shops, and other things. 99% of those places are gone now because Walmart put them out of business.
And get this, I've heard rumors that Walmart is going to start opening Mini-Walmarts to compete with stores like Dollar General, Family Dollar, and such, the only companies that give them any real competition.

Here in the midwest Walmart pretty much has everybody by the balls.. Move into town, run all of the mom and pop stores out of town, set your own prices.. Monopoly is what it amounts to. We can drive 5 minutes to the Super Walmart or drive 45 minutes to the closest big town for a larger grocery store. We have a grocery store in town but their prices are outrageous to keep up with WalMart.

Sam would be ashamed.....walmart has become a monster.... little known facts: when walmart started it was all american made goods, after they sold out to china all the sams choice products were still made in the usa, they no longer have them. rubbermaid pulled their products from walmart because they refused to comprimise their products to get costs low enough for walmart to be happy buying them.walmart and the other big box stores are all monsters. I have to admit I find myself shopping at these places more often than I would like simply because there is no choice anymore

Update. The turn out was smaller than expected, around 35 total, but their enthusiasm made up for it. Every time they approached Walmarts property they got shooed away. The Wal Mart District Manager from Edmonton made the 3 hour trip to investigate the situation. They called in the former employee to have a chat. They still won't change their decision. I had a chance to read the job description for "Greeter" and three times it mentions "making concessions for special needs, elderly, persons with disabilities". This manager said it's up for interpretation. BS! Amber gave three interviews today, Newcap TV, The Cold Lake Sun, and K-Rock. I know were small potatos in the big picture but I can't help but think that she DID make a difference today. We'll have to see how things turn out.

Great stuff Coolpool. You tell Amber how proud we are of her!! Real cutie to boot ! They are all over the news here this morning. They have a class action lawsuit on them from females who own businesss'. They are now Promising $20 Billion to vendors owned by females. I too hate the big box stores.. But I do think they should be able to use ANY vendor they want no matter WHO owns it. AS LONG AS IT IS AMERICAN!!!!!!

It would be amazing if WM had the answer to the entire USA economy by selling only
usa mfg'd goods.
Some sort of incentive 'bailout' $$ like, buy american and we subTRACT the sales tax.
Something's gotta change.
