EDIT 6-9-2019: The below is now deprecated and no longer in affect - all new members will now have access to all open areas of 3WW with the exception of the classifieds areas, which will still require the same criteria mentioned below. Everything else should function as expected, if you're unable to post in or reply to threads in other open areas of the site, please PM me and let me know?

In an effort to help new members familiarize themselves with the site and some of our habits here we've introduced a trial period for new registrations. During this trial period you'll be limited to this forum, the Introduction forum, and also Site/Feedback section if your having problems. Veteran members will be available to help answer questions, and you'll still be able to search and read in other portions of the site but you will be limited to posting in these areas only. Full access to post in the rest of the site is of course still 100% free. We only ask now that you spend some time in these areas first and learn more about the site first before we turn you completely loose. Those requirements are:

A registration time of 2 months or more.
At least 10 total posts on the forum. If you had existing posts before this was implemented, they will count towards your total. If you are new, then you'll need a total of 10 posts in the three above mentioned area before your given access to post elsewhere.

Again, you are still available to read all of the other existing threads and posts on the site, you just are not able to reply to them or make new threads until these requirements have been met.

Thanks for your patience and glad to have you here at 3WW! :)

What happened to the classifieds section I dont see anymore

I think that may be part of what they are talking about. I've been trolling this site for all the great info for a few months now, probably spent 30 hours on the forum alone, finally decided to join, and now stuff disapeared. I like the idea of a minimum post count to see certain area(lots of forums have this), but 2 months to be able to access the classifieds?

Is there anyway around this? Maybe a donation through paypal to help keep the forum running...That way you can weed out spammers, but let legitimate enthusiasts get access without the wait?

I mean I'm not here to try and sell stuff, but it would be nice to be able to buy some tires and odd ball stuff for my big red, or offer up the 2 us90 trikes I'm thinking of parting out. Or at the very least kinda get an idea of what the one piece balloon tires are worth.

Anyways, thats how i see it from the "noobs" point of view.

<<What happened to the classifieds section I dont see anymore>>
Yeah, I've spent the last 2 hrs trying to find out what the deal is. And I can't even reply directly to a post, I have to go to the bottom
and "reply to thread"

I used to go through the classified for parts for my SX and YTM but guess I'm stuck with evilbay.

Sudesh

Just noticed the classified is gone also or HIDDEN from new members. I too was looking to have a browse through plus I had a wanted add in there for 250ES bits but managed to find some NOS bits and was going to update the add and share some pics.

Pity

Billy Golightly
10-28-2011, 08:44 AM
One of the contributing factors of this change has been because of increased abuse of the classifieds. Part of this change is to "make sure they are legit" before people get classified access, and to also establish a pattern by requiring 10 posts.

Sudesh

I have over 10 posts but still cant see the classified or reply to some stuff.

I have over 10 posts but still cant see the classified or reply to some stuff.

You also need to be registered for 2 months. We have had scammers and spammers post 10+ threads in a day. The 2 month and 10 posting New member rule will help cut down or eliminate this.

Now if I am a scammer looking to make money off some poor innocent buyer or seller do you really think 2 months is gonna deter this activity? Most scammers can be spotted by anybody over the age of 12 from a mile away. On other forums that I am a member of the scammer usually ends up being a veteran member that is going through a hard time ie. loss of job, divorce, foreclosure, bankruptcy etc. and chooses to scam other members and just disappear. This is the internet people. Although a few of the members here have probably met face to face before most probably have not. If it smells like a scam it probably is, just run the other way. Also always receive payment through paypal or by USPS Money Order. Is it really that hard to understand?

I fully agree with you, more bs posts and those who have been members for a while and don't like to clutter up the board now have to post just to be able to post elsewhere where they might actually be able to contribute.

so how long after you meet these requirements is it supposed to be until normal viewing and posting on the forum can commence?

Billy Golightly
10-31-2011, 09:35 AM
A server process runs every 2 hours. So hypothetically, once you meet the target, within 2 hours you'll get access to the classifieds and be able to post in the other forums.

Billy Golightly
10-31-2011, 09:35 AM
Mine has been quite the opposite. People scam when they get in a tight spot and need money quick.

Ok well if any of you have seen the Quadracerhq site you probably be familiar with me. If not then and you like quadracers check it out lots of good info there.

Hate to do this but I wanted to post a link to a nice triz I found on another site.

Just picked up a triz this will be my second had one briefly back about 10the years ago.

The last one I had was a 85 with a dg pipe. I had seen the chassis years earlier in a salvage barn off to the side aon an fluke years later I was looking for some other partsneedle and it was still there.

So I took it with me. It was lacking the radiators eng and some other pieces.

I found an engine in Syracuse and picked it up . I went through it and about the time I got it done on of the guys who worked for my brother was pestering me to sell it to him. I wish now I never did.

Well long story short. I have been looking at tecates but I want an 86 and I thought it would be nice to have a set.

So I found a tecate a friend has on the west coast and have to get it here some day.

FYI This is not story time....I merged all your posts.. your still at 4.... :postwhore thanks.....

Just posting to introduce myself. I raced and rode back in the 80's until the ban. My Dad built me two custom race bikes and they were both fast and great looking. When the ban took place and the AATVA only raced 4 wheelers, we folded tent and moved on to other things. Our thoughts were that 4 wheelers were for guys who couldn't ride. Miss the old days of the trikes and have bunches of memories growing up and reading the mags. Still have a box of them somewhere and 3 trikes.

Before this site I thought I was alone now I see I'm not the only one that misses growing up around threewheelers and reading the magazines with threewheelers from cover to cover. In a country like this how could they take something away like this. They tried to ban skate boarding and now almost every town has a state financed skate park. And the chinese copy all of our patents without trying to copy a single offroad threewheeler. I would have one imported. I have had dreams that

I know, right? I'd be so likely to buy a "new" Chinese three wheeler... I know about the quality issues (have 3 of the quads in the shed out back, and they constantly require work), but a 2011 model three wheeler would be cool.

For now, I'll just put my time and $$ into fixing the heap of a '85 250SX I just bought!

After reading some of the post here, and being a NEWBEE. I can see your reason for your protocol. I got on this board to sell a trike I got in partial payment for a job I did for a friend. Thought my wife might like to ride it...WRONG. She went down the street once in 1st gear about 1/2 a block and got off. They say you can't make someone do something they don't want to do. So I'll look forward to the time I can post on for sale thread. It sits in the garage. Thinking this site would connect me to some people that have apprieation for the trike.

Just want to know what I should check out before purchase.

sounds reasonable to me but in our "proby" period we still have access to help from the forums? either way i have a 1983 honda atc250r the trike is decent shape other than a few misc. parts missing when i bought the trike.
my main question is why would the trike run good and strong when the motor is cold but as it warms up it loses power, almost like a valve problem but no valves.could this problem be related to the reeds or just needing a rebuild? my thoughts were the piston and rings since they are the origanal parts from 83,including the reeds....also am looking for the gear-shift arm if anyone can point me in the right direction as i havent been able to find one even on ebay(evil-bay)

Nobody is more upset about this than Billy and myself. We are truely sorry for the problems!!!
Our old hosting company was one of the best out there. Great server and even better tech support when we needed it. Then a little over a year ago they started slipping. Being as we had been with them for many, many years we gave them some time ( too much time now that we look back at it ) to get their poo together. This last issue gave us the final reason to kick them to the curb and start over with a whole new company. There will be a few bumps for a while until everything gets 100% fixed and all settings set properly ( yea, there is more settings than you can imagine ).

Thank you for the explanation. As a newbie to this site,I had been wondering what has happened to a thread I had responded to. Also may explain the disappearance of my Album.

I look foward to making it through my probational period, in the interim, I will sharpen my navigational skill's and familiarize myself with the access I do have in an attempt to be as productive a member as possible.

This is nice, but the people that use this site enjoy it because "We" enjoy not changing with the times, hince the fact that we ride 3 wheelers that have been banned from production since the mid 80's.

I understand the rules, and will abide by them, but I do think that this is a little overbearing. I am not a newb by any means I have dedicated most of my spare money, time, energy, and life to 'wheelers, ever since i was 10 years old. Having to wait 60 days, and post idle drivel, just to converse with people on my level is annoying to say the least. I also very rarely have internet access so this further inhibits me from meeting your prerequisites. I personally despise the internet for what it has done, and is doing to society as a whole, only my love of 'wheelers brings me to the internet, and this site alone. I understand your reasons for your rules but a nanny state mentality is destroying our country, and the minds of its people, and should not be incorporated here. I am not trying to be a stick-in-the-mud, just wanted to state how i feel.
I look forward in the far future to actually being able to post and read where i can actually broaden my knowledge and contribute to others. I am interested in the more technical, in depth discussions, not idle chatter.

I'm trying to find out why the carburetor on my 1984 Honda 200S is pouring fuel through what appears to be a drain in the bottom of the bowl. Is my float adjustment screwed up and if so how do I adjust that? My wife and I are restoring the 3wheeler, just put new parts in the engine. We've made all the fuel/air, idle and timing adjustments and it's starting & running fine.

Would someone please tell me what I need to do or direct me to a thread on this subject?

Hi Billy,

I joined and made this post a few days ago hoping to get an answer I'm having problems finding on the internet. I fully understand the rules as I am a moderator/chapter President of Arkansas Chapter of oathkeepers.org but I want an answer asap! I feel this isn't the place to interact as nothing is happening to assist me. All I'm looking for is to be able to engage in converation with others that have more knowledge than I to help in restoring my 3w.

Thanks for the reply Billy,

I understand your anxiousness, but in comparison to many forums and websites we are small, and we don't have constant barrage of posts and replies that other sites do. I'd encourage you to post up your question as clearly and concise as possible in the new member discussion area, and I'm fairly confident a seasoned member will come by and answer for you in due time.

Over the next two months and maybe 9 good or not so good posts...as I clean out my pole barn of ATC stuff, not one member here will get to benefit from it and it will be scratched from my resources as well...is that really worth it?

I wonder how many other potential members will not wait two months to go through an integrity test?

By the way I am ACCA as well on vintagesleds.com, minibikeforum and Arctic Cat Club of America.

We discussed the minimum rule on a forum I own and we used it for a big swap we had, we asked for and got each member that wanted to be involved to post a private address, e-mail and phone number. We had no issues, gripes or problems.

So as a moderator of 2 other forums, would you consider that petty complaints consume most of your time?
Did you sign on here just to sell your stuff and leave? Or to get involved with topics and discussion of 3 wheelers?

If you are concerned with your barn full of parts not reaching the members here, you can always use Ebay, and most guys on here will find your stuff.

The rules are in place here. It is the way it is. You can spout off all you want about not liking them, but it will not get anything revoked or even accomplished.

No petty complaints at either forum I run. I do have a webmaster who runs the finances and the day to say of the club.
The forum I am in charge of has occasional issues but very mild-we have about 4 mods. Most everything is taken care of 1:1 and an occasional banning-we are on ProBoards.

Did you sign on here just to sell your stuff and leave? Excellent question because we have newbie gives and a large round robin-some members question the motives of those people at times but we still pay it forward-perhaps there is a bitter taste from being burned in this forum before and that is understandable. I came here from Google on a search for Honda Big Reds-I purchased one tonight. I could sell on E-bay but posting on a classified and linking to e-Bay seems to not sit well with most people at VintageSleds.com, I am not an administrator there but am an active member. I came here to share, information, sources, techniques, etc. as decals-restoration and such are the same for snowmobiles and mini-bikes.

Or to get involved with topics and discussion of 3 wheelers? That would have been my obvious choice.

If you are concerned with your barn full of parts not reaching the members here, you can always use Ebay, and most guys on here will find your stuff. I have answered the E-Bay option....and people come and go easily there but I trust my friends and members on other sites more than E-Bay. I also do shows on a regular basis and know the importance of a person's credibility. It's way more than E-Bay stars.

The rules are in place here. It is the way it is. You can spout off all you want about not liking them, but it will not get anything revoked or even accomplished.

I was only discussing an opinion not spouting off and no where did I read the newbie clause BEFORE joining, if it is there then my apologies for missing it.

I hope this clears up any questions.

ACCA, Welcome to the site. I hope you can understand that lately we have had quite a few members sign in with the only intent of selling stuff / scamming other users without helping out the site in any way. The bad part is that this hurts the regular users that help out, and try to sell their extra parts. I for one didn't like the new rule myself, how ever I knew something had to be done. Now that it has been in place for a little while I'm begining to like it.
yes it is a double bladed sword, but like anything you have to take the good with the bad. This rule has actually been more good than bad.

Thank you Howdy.

I was not expecting rules to change for me, just pointing out another perspective.

I listed a way to check my integrity via other sites not to avoid the months of getting involved.

It is necessary to guard against scams.

Hoosier-I was not asking for an argument, just something more than a rude welcome.

It is the rules, but as a moderator and long time member of many sites I have seen rules change just like they do around us. Selling a three wheeler used to be...LOL.

See ya all in 2months-if I remember-I'm getting old :)

Its become necessary not so much just for an integrity check (Which is important undoubtedly, but we get probably 25-30 registrations per day, thats not something I have the time and resources to undertake at the moment, not sure anyone else would volunteer for it either) but the biggest issues were:

People un-familiar with forum and discussion board etiquette joining the site. This includes posting several threads asking the same question in the wrong areas of the site, being beligerant to other members that were trying to help them because they werent replying fast enough. Over the years of watching the site and board I know that the first month or so of new peoples membership is when this phase is at its worse, and if the person hangs around longer than that they get over it and (typically) become good contributing members themselves.

People were also trying to use the board as a replacement for a service manual by asking extremely mundane questions and not using the search system. You can only answer the question of what kind of spark plug should an ATC110 have twice a week for 10-12 years before you get weary. I found that this type of discussion often bogged down other more fruitful discussions and the majority of the membership agreed that you can only answer stuff like that so often before your just sick of it. This is another phase that seems to wear off after people have been here a while and we finally convince them to go buy a service manual and try and learn a little bit about their machines themselves, to get off the computer and in garage. :)

We also had issues with the classified forum usage by people using it strictly for their own gain, and for people doing rip offs. There was just starting to be a lot of shady stuff going on, and frankly still a bit too much for my liking.

We actually discussed having a competency test, a question and answer examination for new membership at one point which I would still support but this seemed like a happy medium instead of making someone try and answer 20 questions to join. I'd still like to at some point offer a test to the new membership and if they can pass it they will automatically be moved to the full member user group, but I haven't figured out a way to automate that yet. My main goal with this was to make the site more about QUALITY membership and not necessarily quantity. Google has been great for bringing traffic and tons of new people here, but its complicated things to a certain extent too.

I agree, heck I may be dead in two months. When you get to be my age you feel grateful just to be able to type or start my three wheeler. Spent all day working on my new 85 atc and installing some Ebay stuff, wheels, tires, throddle and ground the fork stops. I even got to go buy some ether to pop the kenda turf saver tires on the beads. Haven't done that in 25 years. That's about as exciting as pitching it sideways in 4th gear.

While it is a bummer to wait 2 months and 10 posts to get access to classifieds I fully understand the need to restrict access to those who are TRULY enthusiasts.

I've had been registered for quite a while but only just bought a trike so now I'm here in anger! Not quite sure how to get my 10 posts up but I'll work on it.

My trike is a 1979 ATC110. It's immaculate. Single owner. Low miles. Runs very well. Plastic work perfect and so are all the stickers. Came with tool bag and owners manual! A guy on ebay is selling late model ('84) motors. Thinking about buying one to fit in mine and shelve the original motor. Would be nice to keep it low miles and wear out something that doesnt have "matching numbers". Cant't find much info on the reasons I cant fit a late model motor in mine. The seller tells me there are "too many". Any idea's? I'm sure someone, or a few people, have done it. The electrics are easy, that's what I do. Different engine mounts that require frame mods are not really ok as it's such a minter.. Any advice would be great. Cheers

So, this is my first time in a forum and I am so confused :wondering I don't really know where this post is going to end up but... I have a 84 200es and I get great spark when I hold the plug about a 1/4 inch away from the head but when I touch it to the head I get nothing? Its kinda weird. Any help would be great. I have rebuilt these things my whole life and could be allot of help to others but this one has me stumped. Thanks

You shouldn't get any spark through the insulator of the plug unless it is touching a ground. A 1/4 inch away and it still sparks? Does it arc to the head? We are
talking about the plug being in the boot right? It sound to me like a grounding issue almost like the coil could have a bad ground and it is somehow feeding back to itself. Try checking all the wires with the coil other than that it could be a bad coil as I have seem some on other types of engines that will have enough to shock
you but not enough to get through the resistance of the plug. Most plugs have resisters in them now days. Like for instance a Champion plug number will start with a "R" like RJ19LM which used to just be J19LM. Hope this helps somewhat. Best of luck. :beer

Hello everyone! I'm not actually new. I was registered here back in 2006-2007 sometime but haven't been back for a while since I sold the trike I had then and didn't feel I needed to come back but now I have more trikes so here I am. That and I can't remember my ID or password for the life of me! I might as well be new though so It's only fair that I have to deal with the new rules even though it sucks. Anyway, Glad to be back. Now restoring a 1985 ATC 250 SX so I'm sure I'll be here a bit more often and hope you folks can help me and I'll help all I can. Have a good day!

Suggestions and opinions on what could have caused this! I worked on a quad for a guy and he gave me a 1985 250SX but the rear differential was demolished in it. I put up an ad on CL for one and got a steal on one for $100 but not without consequence. The guy told me that the timing chain fell off the top sprocket and was
laying in the bottom end and the motor wouldn't turn. He said it was just sitting there idling and it died and wouldn't start back up. I pulled the motor since I am
going to fully restore it and wanted it down to the frame anyway. I started pulling the top end off and looked in the valve adjusting cover and could see the chain was still there and looked normal. I thought " Uh Oh". Then got the head off and found a disaster with a bent valve, broken valve, and a chewed up piston and
combustion chamber including the valve seats. I checked everything out to try to find a reason this happened and everything looked good. The rod is straight
and not overextending, normal free play, crank looks good, etc. The only thing I can think of it that the valve lash was never adjusted and the valve slammed
shut too hard and that's what sheared the head off of the valve. The guy said it started sounding like a "chain clatter" before it quit. I run my own small engine
repair shop and think I am right but thought I would throw up some pics and see what other opinions you guys have. Just kind of a open discussion on it. I have
the first one that was given to me that seems to have an okay motor but am going to do a full rebuild since it's a restore so I'm not too worried about it as it will
be fixed anyway but like I said, Any opinions are welcome. Maybe someone has a different logical explanation for it. IDK. My only uncertainty it the rod has some
discoloration on it like heat coloring but I have seen this before and thought it was normal from heat treating during manufacturing. Usually I don't see much of it
left because of wear and oil staining but this one is pretty prominent. Let me know what you guys think. I hope I can get the pics up since I'm
new again. Thanks! :Bounce 158081158082158083

when the timing chain fell off the exaust valve was probly open and the piston broke it cause the engines are zero tolerance engines or, the chain got so lose and jump a few teeth and then the piston hit the valve and then the chain probly fell off, had it happen to one of my 200 engines, same deal.

Perhaps I should post a "hello" just to get things going on membership. Ummm...

I have a Tri-z 250 I recently restored with help from this forum. I joined as an effort toward sale of the trike but it is on craigslist already.

For those who have a tri-zinger they want to mod (that was my first place to try an offer help) I may have an old expansion chamber for that lil dude. I used to race one (just a pit bike really, I raced motocross on two wheels) and we got our Zinger up to something over 50mph with a pipe, open air filter, and centrifugal clutch springs from a yamahopper moped. It was silly fast. . .the front wheel would whine at top speed.

Forums are confusing to me, please be kind if I am stepping on the wrong toes by posting this. Mr. Golightly, are you any relation to Alan Golightly?

#1 it's to contain spam posters to one area of the site. The average 3WW member doesn't see the spam now, but us Moderators see a lot of it and remove it so it don't clutter up the site.

Having been a member of many, many forums I have never seen such an extreme approach to reducing spammers. Your registration forms are supposed to get rid of spammers, and if they dont then you need to update your techniques...email activation..the popular typing a funky looking word...and such are more than enough to stop spammers...the few that get past the system would take mere seconds to delete. I have ran and moderated many forums as well...the 2 month waiting period is going to send possible members to other sites where they dont have to wait the period to gain full access. Im not trying to beat a dead horse...but it would be different if the site was part of an organization..or something big..but its a 3 wheeler website..and from what Ive seen most the "spam" this site has is ignorant questions asked by uneducated people mechanically, electrically, etc. I suggest changing your policies to gain more members but if you havent done it already your probably not going to pay any attention to me. The forum is no different than a business if you make each customer not go past the doorway for 2 months to avoid the 2 jehovas witnesses you see all year youre probably going to go bankrupt...js.

Well guys i guess i better start posting or im never going to be able to. Ive been a member for some time an just been reading a lot of post. Now its come down to I need some parts. Im 35 now but back when I was 16 a guy sold me a 86 250r that he put together out of a create brand new for me. I rode the piss out of the thing until I sold it to some lucky fella for $550 exactly what I paid for it. So now ive acquired another 86 250r that was converted into one of the 4wheelers with that ugly conversion they sold for them after the band. Good thing about it is it looks like they quit riding it after the conversion was installed. So now i own it and immediately hacked the conversion off and installed r front end back on. I put the conversion on ebay and it sold for $450 to my surprise. (Wow) Ok now to the point I need a 10inch front rim and have been trying to contact xowner to see if he has anymore and also the triple tree for inverted forks jason hall machines. I want to start this restoration an am need of these parts so could someone help me get in touch with the right folks. Thanks for all the help

I dont often have something to say and that is my fault. But in my case it has stopped me from giving some input to people that were needing some help it has also stopped me from buying some things that people have for sale because I cannot reply on that thread. I was just reading one about some covers that looked real good, could not reply so I will just continue using the toolbox cover I have.
